What is a SteelBook™
As defined by Scanavo, manufacturer of SteelBook™, "A SteelBook™ is the new, innovative, exclusive packaging for high profile music, video & games releases. Steelbook™ consists of a metal exterior and an inner core of plastic with the same dimensions of a standard DVD style case and designed for high volume automated packaging equipment."

While the adaption to blu-ray SteelBooks™ has been slow in the US, DVD SteelBooks™ are widely used as in-store exclusives by FYE and Best Buy and have some universal retail appeal in the discount retailers on select titles including Fox titles and some Anime. Canada remains the closest source of blu-ray SteelBooks™ for North America.

Steelbook™ has become a widely collectible item among movie collectors causing its demand to outpace the supply at record rates. Ebay has become the last resort for collectors to find that missing titles they desire to complete their collection.

It is probably Region locked to B. All TF1's new releases are. And probably no English subs, I think only 2 TF1's releases have had English Subs and they were both French movies.

TFI Video have been region locking their releases so no it would not play in a Region A player other than a LG BH 200.

I've just bought my first Blu-Ray movies (Star Trek 11, Tropic Thunder and Terminator Salvation).

Star Trek 11 and Terminator Salvation both come in exclusive steelbooks from Play.com

From what I have read, users here hate infolabels on the back (synopsis of the movie in question, special features listings) and age rating stickers on the front.

Why is that?

I like reading info about the movie I am watching from the back of the cover and the appropiate age rating on the front just makes it feel more 'familiar' so why do some people here hate them?

I'd rather have the Steelbook versions of Star Trek 11 and Terminator Salvation, but with back labels and age stickers that STAY there and dont come off with the transparent wrapping.

It was done with the DVD steelbook releases of the Back To The Future Trilogy (weren't stickers, printed on the case) and Cloverfield, so why isn't it done with Blu-Ray?

Those stickers and labels ruins the cover. Without them and jsut the picture its a whole lot cleaner.

For people that display their copies it just looks so much nicer without them.

I figured I would add this to the thread since the recent releases of DVD sized SteelBooks for Blu-ray.

I've seen a lot of discussion on the trade boards regarding Steelbooks. It seems they always are 2-4x the price of a regular blu. A poster wanted over $40 per Pirates Steelbook, when all three regular blus can be had for that same price.

Do Steelbooks come with any additional features? An extra disc or better quality? Or is the steel case the entirety of the upgrade? I'm a fairly new blu collector, and trying to determine if collecting these is worth the inordinate amount of money they demand.
