Default Is it always this slow?

Maybe it's just me, but the news and release dates on new movies and bluray releases sure has slowed down over the holidays. Does it always slow down like this between Chrismtmas and New Years?

don't worry--- that's a big YES-- this is the slowest week of the entire
year as far as new announcements and postings on DVD/BLU websites..

Always. Ever since movies and music have been sold, the months of December, January and February have been the 'black hole' months for new releases.

It started with records (you have to remember that movie sales are still a comparitavely new thing), and the general logic was that music didn't sell in the coldest months of the year after the Christmas rush.

It's since carried over to the world of movies. Come March and things always pick up again.

I never really paid that much attention I guess. I have been paying much closer attention since I started collecting blurays last spring. It's good in a way I guess in that it'll give me a chance to catch up on movies that I want to buy if the next couple of months are a bit slower.

They are discovering that this thinking doesn't work anymore, mostly because of gift cards. There are hundreds of millions of dollars that showed up in peoples pockets this past week, and those people will want to spend it. But habits are hard to break.

^Totally agree with you. They need to STOP this type of thinking. I know I got 6 different gift cards and there is pretty much nothing for me to buy right now. Also, this logic doesn't make any sense to me because the cold months are when you would theoretically be able to sell alot of movies as people will be staying inside and at home. I know my wife and I watch alot of movies during the winter months. Football is coming to a close and there won't be jack squat on tv either.

No kidding.. all the good tv shows (Fringe, Terminator, Heroes) are gone from mid dec - late jan/early feb. Seems like after Xmas for about a solid month would be a cash cow. I mean when it comes to people with Xmas money.. they are going to spend it right away on one thing or another regardless.

Concur with these thoughts. I've noticed that most of the smaller collection photos people show on their profiles almost always have most of the same titles. It's time to shake the tree as I, along with others, received money and gift cards which I would like to use for BD purchasing!

Movie released in the theater and concerts too. I guess they figure people are recovering from Christmas.
