Great news.

of course the gaming media will say its still behind the the 360...but they won't compare year to year sales or state that the 360 has been out at least year longer..

Meh I couldn't care less how many 360's have sold. As long as the PS3 keeps selling very well like it is I will continue to get what I want from it (Lots of great games, content, updates, features, etc).

I don't even know how many 360's have sold now...30 mil?

I thought those were the numbers sold...

if so, 28 million shipped is not that impressive...

Sony is selling 10 million PS3's a year while the 360 is selling around 9 million a year or less?...

Well I'm on my 3rd because of RRoD and my brother's crapped out on him yesterday so he may be getting another. So that figure doesn't seem that good to me when you compare with the fact that you don't hear so much about people buying multiple PS3's because of failure (multiple PS3's for different rooms is a different matter )

Well I suppose it is good news. But a lowering in price is inevitable if Sony wants to catch up with the competition. In the meantime, nice !

Yeah my guess is a price drop would equal exponential growth if chosen correctly. If it became priced to compete directly the major BD players on the market it will sell like hotcakes.

LOL my wife's mom wants one but they are waiting for the price to go down.

All Japanese companies are getting crucified now because of the HUGE strength of the Yen and huge drop offs in sales due to the deep recession. Sony are expecting a $2.9billion loss this fiscal, Panasonic a $4.1billion loss, Toyota $4billion loss etc etc.
Sony would be negligent to drop the PS3's price. If anything if things continue as they are there'l be a price rise. Sony openly admitted in a conference call about 9 months ago that gaining market share is not on the agenda but getting the Playstation business profitable was all that mattered for SCEI in these very dangerous times. If the Yen was normal we'd of seen a $299 PS3 last fall. Microsoft got very lucky in terms of competition from the PS3.

, I very much doubt that, due to the cost in the hardware production being lowered, PS3 not getting any extra function's added back, like extra usb port's, backward compatability. and you think Sony would increase the PRICE.. ,yea like it's not hard enough to move Hardware as is at $400.00. if anything the Price will stay the same and more bundle's if anything to increase the Value purchase.

In that case don't expect the total figure of sales to be more than 25 million by December 31, 2009 far behind competition. But if that's what Sony chooses I'm okay with it. I have a PS3 cause I like it and not cause of how many units it sells.

The only negative impact for me as a PS3 user is a negative tendency for game companies to decide in favor of releasing their games to the PS3 too, on top of MS bribes for exclusivities, I just hope the choice does not go down in a noticeable way.
