Default 4.48 million PS3s sold worldwide

http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/26-07-2007-6094.html

It is getting harder and harder for HD DVD promoters to EXCLUDE PS3 by convenience. Every PS3 is a 1080P BD Player.

Does anyone else think those forecasts are a little high?

Beats me, but I heard the sales for PS3 went up over 100% since the price drop.
Also, I use my PS3 as a Blu-ray player, in fact that is why i bought it. So to exclude it from sales figures to show that the HD-DVD players outsell Blu-ray players is an outright lie!

Its good news. The more PS3's sold the more BD movies we will be selling hastening the demise of the HD Dud.The quicker Dud falls into oblivian the faster BD becomes mainstream.

I agree 100%. I used my PS3 ( around ) 90% of the time for watching blu-ray movies.

Same here. My PS3 is primarily a BD player. Only about 2-7% of the use accounts for gaming for me.
I own 29 BD's and only 3 games...I intend on buying many more BD's but very few games...

They can say the PS3 numbers don't mean anything...but it doesn't matter, the BD sales speak for themselves!

While I greatly hope those numbers are accurate, I find it hard to believe considering the last time I checked wikipedia it had the PS3 as having 1.4 million units shipped. This is also the same number that was cited in an IGN article in June. I'm sure sales have gone up alot since then, but it is unlikely 3 million have been sold in a month.

1.4 million? Maybe in America only.

But there are over 1 million in Japan sold and Probably that many in EU or more.

This is worldwide. It was at 3.5m at the end of May. We are getting very close to 2m in the US now. Probably at the end of August.

46 blurays, 17 on on the way or on preorder list... and i only have 3 PS3 games... yes, the naysayers are right, there are no games... but patience is a virtue... i didn't hear anyone complaining about the super nintendo with their 2 games at launch... but that was a lifetime ago

You didn't read very closely, that number on wiki is US sales only, not shiped, but sales.

Here

I haven't seen any figures for Asia sales outside of Japan. Where else has PS3 launched apart from Korea?

The numbers add up to 3.7; The other 0.8 are probly for other countries not in the list. His edit or no, there are citations.

4.48 is not half bad for the PS3 considering it's fairly young age. It'll get some more userbase after December and more still after Metal Gear and Final Fantasy come out.

I'll say, this shows how the PS3 isn't as behind in sales as some want you to think it is. 360 may have shipped 12M, but when you take into effect that not all shipments have been sold (some are in retailers or warehouses), M$ like to double count repairs as shipments, and that about 1/3 of them have died so far, I think it's getting tougher to ignore that there is demand for PS3 games.

Claim to be the most accurate

Xbox 360: 10.19m
Wii: 9.57m
PS/3: 3.89m

See graphics for breakdown.

The PS/3 is on par or ahead of both the PS/2 and the Xbox 360 at the same point after launch.

not realy if they happen to lower the price across all regions and may offer free incentives. to go along with the sale of the PLAYSTATION 3 like more than (1) free game..maybe even more than (2) free games. with free movies to boot.

X-Box 360 has sold 10+ mil, but that's to 5 mil customers since everyone had to buy a second one when they got the red light of death :-)

What does it mean when sales go up 100 percent? Does it mean player sales doubled? Went up 100 fold? What? Never got that one.
