Default Martyrs Review

I really do know what to say about this. I do know that it will either piss you off or you will believe you just watched something of greatness. I'm in the later but I can see very clearly why people might hate it.

It's very harsh and there are some very interesting choices made. It's NOT another Hostel type movie though some may put it in that arena.

I will give a general idea of the plot:

Girl is found and she has been through a traumatic experience. 15 years later she goes to the house of a family and brutally murders them all.

Something horrific happens next.

I really don't want to talk about more until you watch it.

Anyone else seen this yet? If you have I have a question:

[Show spoiler]Did she really see anything or not? Both would be explanations for the suicide by the organizations leader. If she didn't then she would kill herself because all those people suffered in vain. If she did see something then what she saw could cause her to kill herself too.

This movie has been troubling me since I have seen it. I actually had to watch another movie to offset this one for a while.

I wish it was in theatres. Don't think it got a domestic release. I borrowed a copy from a friend that had it. I want to get the Blu-ray of this.

I will recommend having a romantic or lighthhearted comedy ready for viewing afterwards.

I'll be ordering this from amazon.ca, so I'll be expecting to see this some time next week.

Like "Inside" it will probably take a couple of viewings just to get all the way through it. Still excited though.

I loved Inside but this is a whole new monster. I get Inside and the way you should feel about it. I don't understand Martyrs yet.

Just watched it this weekend and had to do the same thing. It was already 1:30 in the morning but I popped in some Pixar and watched that until 3. Didn't help, I still had weird Martyr inspired dreams.

I don't know if I hate it or loved it. Damn French.

Just watched this....

Its one of those films when after watching it, it plays on your mind...did i think it was it good or bad, why did this happen...what did this mean...etc

I found Anti christ to be more messed up if im honest.

As or the ending...

[Show spoiler]My first thought was she told the old woman somthing she didnt want to hear, like there is no after life for people like her. I would have prefered her to go skinless ass crazy and kill everyone lol

I really liked this. I got my friend to try to watch it and he couldn't hang. He had to turn it off. To be fair, it is a pretty disturbing film.

Looking at your collection I see you have a lot of horror and many titles with graphic violence (The Descent, Django Unchained). I think you'll be able to handle it. Whether you'll like it is another matter altogether...

Inside but it's a completely different type of film. You can't compare it to Inside I only picked that because of the gruesome nature of it.

If I had to pick a movie I would compare it to Old Boy.

Oldboy was one of the most f**ked up movies I've ever scene! It was shocking and disturbing (the climax I'm talking about) without having any onscreen gore or graphic violence. It sounds weird but I would say that this is a good movie that I didn't like.

My wife was sooooo pissed at me when we watched it with her younger brother. She told me that it was a good movie but thought what you thought.

She got mad at me again when we watched Martyrs. I want to have her watch Inside next but I don't think I'll show that to her until after we have a kid.

Yea... bad idea to show her before you have one. Maybe wait until she is pregnant?

lol I was just talking about this with a coworker, telling him he needed to watch it. I told him it's a really good movie but after it's over you are like w t f.

I think that is the only movie where I felt like I needed a shower after I watched it.

I'm surprised she would even consider watching it after the other two.

As of now, there's no word on a North American release on any of those unforturnately. Unless somebody here knows something I don't.

Oldboy along with Martyrs are what I consider to be "true" horror movies. Oldboy is way more horrifying that those cheesy slasher movies.
