How much do you think Star Trek will make it's opening weekend? And do you plan on seeing it?

i think the average movie goer sees star trek as too nerdy, so i don't think it puts up wolverine type numbers. but i'm seeing this opening weekend

i'll throw out 65-75

I actually think hype and curiosity will blow this movie up a LOT, especially since a lot of Trekkies will give in and see it. I see a $90-100 million opening weekend for this movie and then like Wolverine, a huge drop-off the second week.

same here, and after the movie the audience clapped for the longest I have ever seen anyone do after seeing a movie, even longer than the Dark Knight

the IMAX was packed and every little remark or "look" that was from the original series everyone laughed and accepted with a warm welcome. I will definitely be going to see this again Saturday and then how ever many more times I can

I only planned to see this movie once in theaters and I had really high expectations based on the reviews, well after seeing it...it blew them all out of the water. This movie nailed it head on with the characters, it was a very fun movie and it had the old STAR TREK feel to it. I just wish the movie had been longer or the sequel was coming out tomorrow, I want to see more of the cast!

My only complaint of the movie was
[Show spoiler]Uhura kept hugging on and kissing Spock
. I don't know if that was in the original series or not but it just seemed to really irritate me every time it happened. Scotty's little alien dude was annoying as well, but can be easily overlooked .

*sigh*

great movie and great cast. The way Bones, Kirk, and Spock's chemistry worked together was awesome

I agree. I do not think that this movie will be as big as many people think it will be.

there's no doubt it's going to attract a new core group of fans, but it just doesn't have the mass appeal because....well, its star trek

Well next time you use your communicator sorry I mean cell phone you can thank the "nerd" who watched TOS and was inspired by it. Along with all the other "nerds" who watched it and grew up to be doctors and scientists and astronauts.

it wasn't meant as a slight. i literally couldn't find anyone to go see this movie with me because its "star trek". your average moviegoer thinks the same thing.

and i have a hard time buying star trek is the reason for cell phones but i get what you mean

These crazy Star Trek fans always get so defensive.

I don't think Star Trek had anything to do with cell phones. I'm pretty sure phones were around first, and it was obviously only a matter of time before they became portable.

And for every Star Trek fan that goes on to become a doctor, there is at least one that goes on to work at a video store.

Anyhow, I agree with xtop. I think the perceived nerdiness might keep some people away. If they hear good things about it (and by good, I mean "no, this isn't nerdy at all, it's great"), then the movie might have a good 2nd week.

There are tons of guys who probably think Wolverine is awesome, and their girlfriends think Hugh Jackman is a stud, so I'm not surprised Wolverine did well. Good luck getting a girl to see Star Trek... or admitting to a girl you want to see it.

I'm assuming this will be the best of Star Treks and will be underrated.
