Default sammy DLP question?

Last August I bought the samcrap HL-T5076s DLP tv! It has had a slight bowing effect since day one. Everyone Ive seen at B.B. and C.C. and also my girlfriends exact same model all do it to some degree. Its a annoyance, but decided to live with it. Lately it seems like Ive noticed a little brighter area in the top widescreen black bar in the center about a foot in length, changing a little lighter or darker with the brightness of the scene. Girlfriends does same thing. the warrantys are up in a month so Im trying to get them both serviced. I tried talking to higher level support today I got 2 different answers as I set up for service a week ago. There is no sam. tech. close to our area, so supposedly theyre trying to set it up one rep mentioned an exchange which I could live with, maybe this years l.e.d. powered sets would probably satisfy me. they cant do anything about the bowing effect because of the slim depth design. I dont want to get screwed on another sam. product as I have the bd-p1400, which needs serviced and recently bought the bd-p1500. Any good suggestions would be appreciated to battle with sam. to make me happy with the tv........sorry so long!

I had a 2005 Samsung DLP that was replaced with a 2008 model and it was mixed blessings. Really I traded one set of problems for others. Like you I now have a slightly bowed image and the light bleeds through the top black bar. It sucks. I am completely turned off by rear projection DLP. Wether it's Samsungs spin on DLP then so be it.

Samsung contracts work through what they call "Special Relations" which will most likely be called "Plus 1 solutions". These people are super friendly and they will find someone capable in your area to service your set. Only let it be done on site - do not let them take it. From everything I've read about current problems there is little they can do about it. Bad design really and that sucks because the damn thing has a beautiful Picture.

My next set will most likely be a great big ole plasma. I have an extended warranty till the end of 2010.

In any case I'm sure you can find some useful info at AVS about the problems with Samsung DLP. You are not alone.

Its a little bending on each side of the screen, more noticeable when theres a straight line going across like a menu or writing going across the bottom of the screen.

Thats where Im at now, plus 1 solutions! the only way Id let them take it is for good and leave one I want, if they do a exchange! which model do you have? youre saying that they havent remedied any issues on this years models? If so they need to leave a plasma or lcd or something from a different manufacturer.lol......theyre a pain in my ass!

I currently have a HL56A650 which replaced a HL-R5668W that was more expensive than the new model. Samsung will only replace your set with a like model and it will be a DLP. You have to stay on top of Samsung as they will forget about you. They forgot about me for over two months and then I called daily. Your exchange will have to be approved so have a few models in mind when/if it gets to that point.

If they do somehow fix your current sets issues would you please post what they did? Thanks!

My guess is these issues cant be fixed since you have same the problems on this years model! thats f...ked up. the only benefit I see on yours is no lamp replacement, which is a plus, but if everything else is the same than I guess they cant produce dlp tvs worth a shit. way to go samsung.

hmm i have 2 sammy dlps and have had no problems with either. the first one is the hlp5063w only 720p and the 1080p is hls5687w. i plan on getting the bulb replaced for the 50" soon, but there really no reason too, i'm just doing it b/c i have the extended warranty that allows for one bulb replacement.

good luck w/ your issues.

I have been calling them daily after you told me that! they did say theyre waiting to hear from the top dog if they can do the exchange. thats the model Id get, the a650 series, that evidently does the same things my present unit does.Id have to compare them to see if its a little better this year. after researching them I see I was wrong, they take lamps too.

The lamp really is of no issues and no less a technology than LED. My issues are the bowing and bleed through of light into the upper black bar. My guess is the way the housing is designed???

On my old set I had the light tunnel colapse 4 times. Which causes a vertical gray shadow on left side of the screen. It is the glue that holds the light tunnel in place that fails. I had the light engine replaced, the digital board replaced, the analog board replaced, And would have had to have the color wheel replaced. finally they offered to replace the set with a new model.

Maybe it's not all models that have a slight bowing and bleed through but all the 2008 models I know of do. It also may be hard for some to see it at first but once you do, it's all you look for. You will notice an hour glass shape on 4:3 material and bleed through into the upper black bar when watching Bluray. The bowing is often more noticable on certain material.

I am sure Samsung will try to help you out but if time goes by and you hear nothing. Call back and ask to speak to a senior figure. Once I told the lady in charge I waited for basically two months to have my problem resolved she did the exchange on the spot.

All I know is Samsung is bad with DLP design. It's nice to have a slim TV but at what cost???

Just talked to samsung ecr and theyre setting me up for exchange. I mentioned that I heard this years models do the same thing as last years, of course theyre clueless about that! They said it would take 7-14 days for the exchange. who knows! so basically Im getting a different tv with the same issues, only a new lamp. they should be able to put out better dlps. the plus I see to l.e.d. powered is no lamp replacement. Im going to assume the exchange also comes with a 1 year warranty.

The obvious advantage is the longer lamp life, of course, but there is another. The LED model DLPs use three colored LEDs to produce the image which means no color wheel. Another clear advantage.

True, I never thought of that one! Well theyre not going to do that exchange anyway so I might as well forget that one. Wonder what the led life is compared to a bulb?

LED in DLP should last the lifetime of the set. Are they still sending someone out to look at your TV?

For anyone who may be interested: I was told by a repair shop that seemed to be very knowledgeable that there is or will be soon a LED conversion kit for lamp based DLPs.
