lolz.
its not "super old" its the original wiring from when the house was built in like the 60s. a few of the sockets have had to be replaced for safety reasons.

i doubt it has anything to do with the ps3 and i would definately check everything else first before restoring your system.

Power conditioner and surge protector are a bit different. I have a somewhat expensive one but not sure of any cheaper ones, maybe someone else knows on here?

You should definitely try to plug your components (tv, receiver, ps3, sub) to a different circuit than the refrigerator (or anything that demands high current at startup). It will cure the pops, static and other noise in both your audio and your video signal.

If you can't, using a power conditioner (like it was suggested by others) might help but I'm not sure it will cure it.

If you cannot plug them in a separate circuit, I would suggest to install a new one for your HT. It would be a good investment to get ride of most noise and interference and for the durability of your components. Also be sure to use a least a surge protector before your components to protect them from power surges.

the problem was fixed just by plugging everything into a surge protector but id already ordered the new HDMI to DVI cable to replace the component cable because i thought it was broken.
i plugged in the new cable anyway but i just get a blank screen. i dont think my TV can display HD through DVI. on the back of the TV above the component socket i has a list of all the HD resolutions it can display but above the DVI socket there is nothing, so that makes me think the TV doesnt suppport HD through DVI.
am i right or is there somehing im doing wrong?

did you change the input on the TV itself to the DVI connection?

also make sure the PS3 is outputting 720p and not 1080p. (also set PS3 to RGB output)
