I've preordered the 3D blu, ut something tells me this will get the double-dip treatment sooner rather than later anyway. No Ridley Scott commentary? No extended cut that was talked about? Really meager extras? Yeah, I'm thinking a deluxe edition is in the works, and when that arrives, that's when I'll upgrade to 4K for this one!

Problem is I don't think Fox will want to have a second UHD version printed, at least till they see how well sales are. |

I don't think it will ever be an option for 4K Blu-ray. |

I don't usually expect double-dips these days, they're relatively rare compared to the DVD days, but I do admit this one looks like a likely candidate. |

I think I'm going to hold off on UHD for a couple years at least. I didn't get my first HDTV and blu-ray player until the end of 2012 anyway. Most movies (as already stated) are 2K masters and many will never be anything more than that. So it will take some time for more true 4K masters to be made and most will probably be newer movies or older movies preCGI. Plus I'm a big 3D fan and that's only offered (any maybe will only ever be offered) in HD. Not to mention that HD is still a very viable format and will continue to be for a long time. I've been paying $12-15 a movie ticket to see 2K versions on the big screen for several years and been quite happy with that. Heck I'm still using a Dolby ProLogic system, not even true 5.1, so I haven't even taken full advantage of the audio capabilities of many of my old DVDs I bought 15+ years ago. So any audio improvements on the new discs don't really effect me either. If anything, I would like to have HDR. Even more tan 4K. But I don't want it by sacrificing 3D. So I'm hoping they come up with a solution in the next couple of years to add 3D at 24fps and 48fps(missing from the UHD BD spec) support to UHD w/HDR. My hope is that it is technically possible and that the next three Avatar sequels that will be shot in 3D at 48fps help push this new add-on UHD BD spec. Plus, I don't have the money to be cutting edge right now anyway. I'll wait till the players are around $100 and till I can get an 4K OLED, HDR, passive 3D set at 65 inches for under $2000. That or a projector around that price that supports passive 3D at 1080p or above. Hopefully also with HDR. |

Yea, I got Martian, Life of Pi, and Fant4stic. I was gonna get X-men also, but it said coupon was only good on orders under $100 so I couldn't. Seeing as I already have DoFP I decided it was the one to go, and I'll just get it from BB along with the Player.

Sheesh, I hate it when companies get it wrong with their own product.
At the FoxConnect site, both the UHD editions for The Martian and X-Men: Days of Future Past list them as the regular 3D versions. And even though I assume that I'll get the UHD releases, who knows if the error is just in the listing and not in the warehouse release software. I'm hoping that the sale price and the fact that they are part of a list that pops up after clicking on the main page 4K UHD list will be enough. Sheesh! |
