Post production in 2003, especially on Fox was aimed at the 480p broadcast (remember they were still "enhanced widescreen" at the time) first and foremost.

It's a huge upgrade over the DVD, you just have to look beyond the superficial. A/Bing them: compression artifacts- gone, blurryness-gone, color depth, noticeably higher, blacks-noticeably deeper. The whole thing is just tighter. The FX shots were professionally upconverted as well, so they look better than any on the fly scaler is going to manage.

Serenity on HD DVD was gorgeous. On Blu it should be even better.
Does that mean it's not just going to be a direct transfer? Did it have lossless for HD DVD?

What do those who bought it think? Is it worth upgrading to BD? I love this series, I don't want to be dissapointed in the BD. Should I get it?

Does this mean you don't agree with IGN's top 25 blu-ray list since it includes Firefly?

Anyway, I'm happy with it and think it looks better than the DVDs (worth upgrading imo). But, I agree with others that there are some scenes where the special effects look like they're in standard-def. I agree on the audio also. It was nice and a lot more consistent.

I am sort of torn on this. When I saw Firefly on BD I was so happy, had a nerdgasm But then all the bad reviews came in got worried. I love the series too much not to get it on BD, I will keep my DVD set as a backup, yet I am getting it.

well they had a couple of questionable disks in the top 25 that I thought were laughable and a couple that were missing, namely Iron Man. I can't think off the top of my head what I thought should not be up there, but they were blatantly poor choices.

HD DVD was only DD+. Didn't stop the video from being shiny though. I expect Uni will do a new compression anyway
