Hey guys,
I have a Sony Blu Ray Player, and was thinking of switching to a PS3. Does the PS3 make more noise (from the fan?) when playing than a normal standalone player? If so, how noisy is it? |

I have the motor storm 80gig ps3 and is suppose to be the noisiest one. (is louder then my bro. mgs4 80gig) I only hear the fan when no noise is coming out of the tv. The bigger the tv (farther you sit away) and the louder the tv, then you should not hear it. And I don't have surround sound, just the speakers on my panasonic. I honestly don't understand the complaints about the noise, but to each their own I guess. I would say don't let the potential noise factor dissaude you

If I have the air conditioning running and good circulation in the room, it never kicks into high gear. If I close the doors, it kicks up a bit louder. With no AC and no circulation, it gets pretty loud.
So as long as there's plenty of cool air and circulation in the room, and you don't have boiling hot electronics near it in a confined space, you should be fine and not hear it too often. |

From what I hear, the old 60 gig PS2 playable versions (old ones) are quite loud.. but I think all new ones are very silent. I have a 40g version from back in Feb/08 and I have never heard any noise from mine.. ever.. Even when there is no noise in the room at all... completely silent.. I still can not hear anything from it.

Funny you ask OP...I bought a stand alone first because I remembered how loud the PS2 fan was and I wanted quiet operation for movie watching.
Boy was I wrong. The 305 is way noisier than my PS3. I keep my PS3 low to the ground and well ventilated and that keeps the fan from going all jet engine crazy. |

Speak for yourself. My 60GB is really quiet. The only time I really notice is it is when it's Folding because it seems to output a high-pitched noise then. Other than that, all I hear is a slight movement of air, a bit like a white noise generator you might hear in a doctor's office only not as loud.
