Cool Mirage and Definitive Technology?

A local forum had a discussion on these two types of speakers recently. Apparently the DF's are the be-all end-all of Best Buy and Mirage are a lot cheaper but still ok?

I am still learning, but I know nothing about either of these brands.

Make no mistake my friend...MIRAGE make very fine speakers! They're just different and you should have a listen to both. For the record, try visiting a few higher-end stores for Def-Tech's and Mirages...they'll have more of a selection and they'll deal!

I like Definitive, but be careful - they have distinct product lines. Check out

http://www.definitivetech.com/

The value is definitely there. I'm not familiar with Mirage, but from personal experience, you can't go wrong with Definitive.

I have Mirage speakers, powered by a Sony STR-DG820 and I'm very satisfied with their performance. They are precise and handle everything with ease. I have an average size room and feel they could handle a larger room with ease.
The speakers I have are:
Fronts-OMNISAT V2 FS
Center-OMNISAT V2 CC
Sat.-OMNISAT V2
SUB-OMNI-S8
NOTE-The 5.0 sets, such as those at BB, do not include a Center, but instead use a 5th Nanosat or other speaker (Omni, etc).
I have auditioned this setup and feel that the Mirage systems benefits from a dedicated center. However, after listening, you may feel differently.
The Mirage line ascends from Nanosat to Omnisat to Prestige.
I found the Omni's to sound very good to me, HOWEVER-as has already been mentioned, be sure to take the time to audition these speakers and I would suggest a couple of times in different locations, if possible.
If you decide on Mirage, I feel you will be very happy with your purchase.

I can't say enough good things about my DefTechs. I've heard one (smaller) set of Mirage speakers, but they can't touch the DefTechs.

The original M Class Mirage speakers where in direct competition with the Def Tech BP series. The M-Class actually bested the DT's in some areas. When Mirage went omni-polar, they became a different speaker all together. Still a good speaker, but a different one.

I probably shouldn't comment since I haven't compared the two in years. But when I was last speaker shopping Mirage was much better than Def Tech. I think DT has made strides since then and Mirage has probably lost ground.

I love my Mirage speakers (check out my HT Gallery and sig for pics/info). However, Mirage speakers do give you a different sound due to their design. I prefer the sound of the Mirage speakers. Listen to both sets and decide for yourself which sound you prefer.

gotta be def techs all the way. They produce crisp perfect sound. You just need to go listen to an audio setup like mine. You wont be disapointed.

Hey there! I am in the market for some new speakers and just auditioned the same DT's you have. After having them for a bit, have you had any issues? Do you regret your choice at all? How is the sound in the smaller center speaker? The guy at the store was trying to get me on the larger center. I appreciate any help and feedback. Thanks! Great set up by the way!

If you mean the BP line and the CLR centers, I have the CLR2002. I think it's a great speaker. Meshes perfectly with my BP6b's. If you're going for the larger supertowers, I would take a hard look at the CLR2300.

When I bought my def techs I also looked into mirage. At the time I listened to the same scene from gladiator and with all equipment being equal there was definately a large jump in quality between the two. The def techs had much more sound coming from them. I could pick up little sound effects that were not even audible on the Mirage speakers. But as others have mentioned you should demo several speakers/brands and decide for yourself.

I'm definitely in the Def Tech camp. Great speakers! As always, you'll have to decide which is best for you. *cough* Def Tech *cough*

I like the Def Tech Mythos series towers, but I haven't really listened to anything else of theirs. I haven't heard Mirage speakers for years, and I haven't listened to any with the new tweeter setup.

I have auditioned both extensively. Both speaker lines do very well for HT. Honestly, I actually owned a Def Tech pro cinema 1000 5.1 set up prior to my current rig. They were so good that they prompted me to get better speakers. The higher you get in their lines(DT and Mirage) the better they perform with music/2 channel. But IMHO the Def tech Super Towers is where the magic really is. I strongly considered the STs when I upgraded before I went with dynaudios.

Someday I'll upgrade to the Supertowers. I love my BP6b's, and they're the bottom of the lineup for the BP's.

Honestly i never heard a Def Tech speaker but if there like Mirage (higher end models)then there's no doubt in my mind that they put out some amazing speakers.I just wish i could say i knew that first had
