it's the only way to get a true 4K presentation. However some of the upconverts are stunning. Does make you wonder how much better they could look too.

This has been happening a lot lately. Some people know deep down that UHD BD is an overall big upgrade, but they have to rationalize it and diminish it because they don't want to spend the money on the necessary gear. In their minds Blu-ray was going to be the last and best format forever. And now it's not so it's a big kick in the balls to them.

Yeah I get that but they are leaving money on the table. Look how many people are willing to buy a 4K combo pack if the bluray was a new master.

I thought about doing this but yeah, that SDR conversion.

Would be better if studios did what Shout does and have both HDR and SDR options.

For normal every day viewing it's online with a good plasma. having the ability to upconvert my favorite BDs is a big plus, especially with the OPPO 203 and it's DV output ability.Still, a KURO is a part of history so hang on to it as long as you can.
There were a few sales for OLED's that I thought about getting but passed on. I'm just not ready for a new TV yet.

Of course even when I do get a 4K TV I won't be selling the kuro. It'll just be put in another room. Can't get rid of this silky organic plasma picture.

Anyway I think this argument has run it's course. Just note that the exact same thing happens in the bluray forum whenever these smaller and independent labels announces a 4K scan of a catalogue title.

A way for them to feel better about being temporarily "left behind" is to act like the upgrade is meaningless or very minor.

Yep, it doesn't amount to much anything more than that. It's all about pricing, the new barrier to entry, and the cost already spent on past equipment.

And what a way certain people are being dismissive of others who don't want to buy UHD yet. It absolutely has nothing to do with feeling "left behind" or "acting like there's no difference." People like me genuinely feel the cost is not worth it yet vs what they already have. Bluray still being a relevant format with regards to picture quality helps with this. No matter how many times you want to compare the situation with DVD it's just not the same.

I can run out right now and go buy a 4K OLED. I don't have any other expenses like kids or a SO to worry about. I seriously do not feel like it at moment. The picture on my TV more than satisfies me. That wasn't the case with DVD. With my lowly 4:3 27" SD TV. You're gonna make that comparison? Really?

So until then we are going to keep asking for newly mastered blurays. There's nothing wrong with that.
See you basically agree. It's about cost and that's about it. The extra visual fidelity is not very important to you and you can't justify the cost.

And finally, no one is being dismissive of you. You are on OUR subforum. The one for 4K UHD discussion. If anything, it is you that is being dismissive of the on-topic discussions around here.

Want some Crimson Tide on UHD now but Disney catalog so probably never.
Dude, I was thinking about that just yesterday. All that '90's action goodness that lives with Disney like The Rock, Con Air, Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State, Armageddon etc is just sitting there doing **** all. Boo. Boo-urns!

Oh, we'll get them. Disney will probably do one big dump release like they did with all their 90's/00's animated movies just a short few months before the streaming service hits. However, unlike those animated movies these will disappear into the vault once the streaming service comes out and we won't be able to see it unless it's on their streaming hub. Then what 4K UHD's are remaining in circulation will sell for exorbitant amounts of money online.

It's a pity Bruckheimer can't take 'em elsewere, if only just to distribute on 4K.
