Default Dark Knight BD sells 2 million in the US, 2.8m worldwide

Quote:
Warner has announced that over 2.8 million units of the Blu-ray of The Dark Knight have been sold.

Since it launched in December, this title has sold over 2 million Blu-ray copies in the USA and 850,000 in the rest of the world. In the US, over a million units were sold in the first week alone.

According to Dorinda Marticorena (Senior Vice-president, Worldwide Marketing and High Definition, Warner Home Video), the film also had a decisive impact on hardware sales. According to market surveys by Warner, one third of those who bought a PlayStation 3 in October-December 2008 stated that the publication of The Dark Knight on Blu-ray Disc played a role in their purchasing decision.

In 2009 Warner has no new Batman movie coming up, but the studio anticipates significant Blu-ray sales of potential blockbusters to be released during the year, such as Watchmen and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

No it couldn't. This is significant Blu-ray news for the format in general - the first title breaking 2 million units sold.

I agree, the 2 Million mark being broken is the news here, I'm not worried about which movie it is, just that it's done! That's awesome to hear!

i'm sorry but what does that mean?
2 million US + 2.8 million Worldwide = ( 4.8m worldwide )
or
2 million US + 800k Worldwide ?
if this is the case its very decepointing ( except for the us of course )

maybe we don't know a good flix when WE see one. actually though i think it may be due to higher prices overseas and the market penetration not being there yet for blu-ray. at least not like it is here.

Different places, different taste. In Japan they might be shock to see the poor sales of the latest hot anime in the USA. Everyone is different.

Of course NOT! TDK selling 2 million units in the US and 2.8 million worldwide is groundbreaking and exciting news. Why bury something this important amongst all of the nonsense that we all post in the TDK mega thread?
