Default Question about near future

Hello,

I recently purchased the th42pz80u, been wanting a plasma for quite some time now, now all of a sudden 2 weeks after owning it, I begin to read all this doom and gloom about the end of plasma, should I not be worried about plasma ending or should I cut my losses and buy an lcd.....

I'm hoping all this doom and gloom has no backing to it, but in all honesty it has me a little worried. Any incite to this would greatly be appreciated.

Some manufacturers are discontinuing plasma production, but not all. Panasonic still thinks the technology is worth developing. If you look in between the "doom and gloom" threads, you'll see threads about the new Panasonic plasmas.

Stick with what you want. Even if all plasmas are discontinued, manufacturers will still support the ones already sold for a while.

Thanks for the response, almost takes me back to the hd format war a year ago lol, wondering if the technology will be there tomorrow sort of thing, just a small annoyance overall

Panasonic own 5 plasma factories - don't concern yourself with the idiots who don't understand the market like Jason Unger at CePro.

Plasma market 2008
1) Panasonic - 39.1%
2) Samsung - 29.5%
3) LG - 22.7%
4) Hitachi - 7.6%

Plasma 1080p market share 2008
1) Panasonic - 78%
2) Samsung - 12%

Quote:
Total plasma panel shipments for 2008 were 15.1 million, up 26 percent from 2007. This represents stronger growth than the previous year said DisplaySearch.
The only reason shipments were down in Q4 is because of the economy, but on the year as a whole it was another good year for plasma of continued growth. Pioneer had 1% of the market, their exit from the market might cause some people looking to get traffic to their website to come up with sensationalistic headlines, but the truth of the matter is completely different.

In addition to shipments being up 26% year to year in 2008, revenues were also up 6%.

That's the way it looks from where I'm standing.

Until LG and Samsung back out of the market plasma isn't going anywhere...and given the way Samsung operates they'll stick in the market as long as Panasonic does, trying to be #1.
