hi everyone i have been given a sony str-de445 5.1 set up but i only plan on using it as a 3.1.
the receiver has no hdmi so i connected it up to my ps3 using an optical cable could anyone tell me what settings i should be using on the ps3/receiver to get the best sound i can from blu rays . or if anyone can suggest another way to set it up that would be great .

i have searched through the posts on site but its just plain confusing

Unfortunately you will only be able to get the standard DD and DTS audio, no HD audio or LPCM. I believe the setting is direct under audio options.

Unfortunaltey, since the PS3 doesn't offer multichannel output, you will not be able to listen lossless 5.1 audio, however you will be able to get lossless audio over 2.0 channel stereo (main left and right).

Set the PS3 to linear PCM, this will allow the PS3 to do the decoding rather than the receiver, and then set the movie to True HD or dts MA etc. Also set all your speakers in your receiver to the small instead of large setting.

Good Luck!
