I have seen it, and while it isn't an outstanding movie, I wouldn't say it's the worst. The Ray Bradbury story it's based on is probably one of my all time favourite time travel short stories.

Back to the Future is by far my favorite. But I also love several of the others mentioned like 12 Monkeys, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek IV, Terminator series, Groundhog Day, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Also, I like the Planet of the Apes remake, Deja Vu, and Flight of the Navigator.

I saw it. I liked the story, but the movie itself was terrible.

yeah the short story rules, it's a shame the movie was such a bad adaptation. you're right, it wasn't the worst, but the special and visual effects were absolutely horrendous and in that type of movie they are key.

I get the humour that you are trying for with the travel bit, but in Groundhog Day he travels back to the beginning of the day everyday while maintaining a memory of his experiences. So, he is, in effect, travelling in time.

The Time Machine directed by George Pal impressed me as a child so I'll go for that one.

The first two mentioned take the trophy IMHO.... Back II the Future and 12 Monkeys....

Does Stargate count? I'ts more of an interstellar travel.... but it transports them billions of lightyears away.

I was hoping someone would do this thread. Depending on how it all works out Lost may be one of the worst, IMO, because they follow no rules. Granted it is not a movie, and it hasn't wrapped up yet. I love the show but I think the time travel concept should have some guidelines. Terminator gets my vote but Back to the Future is more fun to watch.

I enjoyed The Butterfly Effect. Its a different type of time travel.
Second in line is Back to the Future
Third place is Quantum Leap (Best time travel mini series)

I would say The Terminator followed by Back to the Future. I never read the short story, but A Sound of Thunder was a real letdown. It's a shame because it had such great potential. For that matter so was the remake of The Time Machine.

How about The Three Stooges Meet Hercules? LOL

It's Bradbury's "Here There Be Tygers". I think it's one of the stories in The Illustrated Man, but I could be mistaken - I last read it maybe thirty years ago.

Back To The Future Trilogy.

Also like:
Timecop
Star Trek IV
Star Trek Generations
Star Trek First Contact
Stargate Continuum
The Final Countdown
Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban
The Philadelphia Experiment
Time After Time
Flight of the Navigator

Don't exactly consider the Terminator series time travel since almost all of each movie takes place in present day. The characters in the movies that I've listed actually do move through time and do spend more than just a brief time within each timeframe.

I saw that movie. It could have been really good, but the studio went bankrupt and the studio that bought it's rights decided to release the movie as is....a shame...
