Default Blacklight - Megathread - From Comic to Video Game, First Screenshot!

Fox Atomic Developing Adaptation of Blacklight Game

It's rare we see deals made on video games that haven't even been announced, but it does actually happen occasionally in Hollywood. Fox Atomic has signed a deal with Zombie Studios for the rights to their forthcoming video game Blacklight. Fox will help develop the game as well as a comic book series and a feature film. Newcomer Jason Dean Hall will write both the video game and the big screen adaptation. "We are excited by the huge potential Blacklight has to succeed across multiple platforms," said Fox Atomic president Debbie Liebling. "It offers us a remarkable franchise opportunity for film." More info below.

Zombie Studios has put up a couple of concept art images from the game on their website. Blacklight is described as a covert military action story set 25 years in the future, but unfortunately that's all we know. The film, video game, and comics will feature the same characters and high caliber military action, but with unique, intersecting storylines that complement each other. Given the game is still being developed, I don't expect we'll hear much on this for a while. To be honest, I was sold on the concept art, as it looks pretty awesome (see above). Otherwise, I wouldn't have cared about this since it's so early in development.

Update: Zombie Studios has sent over the very first screenshot from the game. You can take a look at the screenshot below (click for full-size). It definitely looks like a very cool game and I can't wait to see more. We were told that this is the only screenshot from Blacklight that we'll see until Comic-Con. Enjoy!

Based on the one screenshot, I think that it has a 'Dead Space' feel to the game.

This should be moved since it's a PSN game.

It looks like a AAA title for only $15 but I had never heard of it before this morning.

Edit: And it is now called Blacklight: Tango Down

This looks Unreal ugly and making it a shooter is going to make it all the tougher to see as a PSN game. I as much as most people prefer shooters to be a full retail product.

In addition to the game's traditional competitive multiplayer modes, the 'Black Ops' co-op component will support four players and offer replay value via character growth and upgrades.

Played a few games of this last night. The game plays like MW and Halo combined but no where near as good. The few maps I played varied from small to big. Small maps kind of suck because the opposing team will spawn camp.

Update from playing it:
This game sucks, controls are awful, maps are boring and guess what no one is playing it.

Default Blacklight Tango Down Infiltrates PSN Tomorrow With New Features

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/...-new-features/

Quote:
In addition to being fully-updated, the PlayStation Network version will include the brand-new ‘Join in Progress’ feature, that allows players to instantly join the online action without waiting for an intermission. Up until now, players had to wait until the end of a round, or start a new game. ‘Join in Progress’ has been our number-one most asked for addition to the game, and it makes the experience a lot more smooth.

Wow, I downloaded the demo.. Man this game is freaking ugly.. but it runs very smoothly at least. How could it not run smooth, it is like running the Unreal 1.2 Engine from 10 years ago.

15 cents is probably the max it is worth.

It is using UE3 and is very obvious. It isn't as polished as a full retail game with a bigger development team using that engine but even then I have never hated an engine more than UE3. But graphics don't make the game and for a $15 downloadable game the gameplay is better than I have come to expect after games like Punisher and Cellfactor. My views are based on the 360 version though so it is possible the PS3 version has other issues since on the PS Blog they said a different team worked on the PS3 version.
