I wish he would complete the books, it's been what 5-6 years since the last one?

Sean Bean is a good choice, pretty much how I would picture Ned.

I know! He's taken forever on this book...I feel like I need to reread the older one's just to freshen up a bit (which isn't a bad thing because I feel they are just great).

I'm curious as to who will be cast as the female leads (Sansa, Catelyn, Arya, Cersei).

Per Wikipedia:

Kit Harington as Jon Snow — Bastard son of Lord Eddard Stark.

Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon — The King of the Seven Kingdoms, who took the Iron Throne after he crushed the royal House of the Targaryens in a bloody civil war 15 years before the events in the series

Jack Gleeson as Joffrey Baratheon — The oldest son of Robert Baratheon and heir to the Iron Throne

Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister — A sarcastic and cynical dwarf, younger brother to the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, Cersei Lannister

Harry Lloyd as Viserys Targaryen — The exiled and bitter heir of the royal dynasty that once ruled the Seven Kingdoms.

And George Martin wrote on his 'Not-A-Blog' that he's seen videos of the auditions and that he's very happy with the actors thus far.

One troule I always had was with the age of the characters. He seem to be having them and acting in ways that are actualy more mature sounding then the age is telling us they have. I wonder how they will translate that in this series?

Very true...maybe due to the mature situations they're constantly faced with forces them to mature more quickly (I'm pulling at straws here). But yes, I curious how this will all translate especially with many children dying throughout the series. Realistic, I guess one could say, but a theme that many audiences find too depressing. Personally, I can't wait, should the series be a faithfull adaptation.

I am looking forward to it as well, it's been one of my favorite series of the last 10 years. I am glad they are going the way of a series instead of movies. This just doesn't work in a movie settings, too big.

Not sure what I think of Bean as Stark. Not really how I pictured him.

Also, I picture Robert to be a little more "rough" than Mark Addy.

I don't know much of the others. . .

This isn't the picture perfect cast for me, but hell, I'm just glad they are making this at all.

Hope it's half as good as the books.

I do see Bean as Stark but for Robert I had a different idea but we shall see.

I agree though if he needs to take more time to NOT write another stinker like Storm of Crows, I'm all for it. Too many names to keep track of after so many years between books.

The problem is with so many years between books and the scale of the series, you need to refresh yourself but they are not books that can be read in a few hours

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Commander Frank Pike in the pilot for Fox's spaceship saga “Virtuality,” will play “Kingslayer” Jaime Lannister, a knight and key player in HBO's pilot for “A Game of Thrones.”

Just completed the casting, no work done as yet I would not expect this on HBO until fall 2010 or winter 2011. Unless someone heard something more official?

Hmmmm, does HBO ever do a summer release of shows? Seems like that could work since all the regular shows are on vacation at the major networks.

I also wonder what a "season" will be. Most HBO series seem to do 12 episodes for a season.

I just hope they don't "change" things. I was a fan of the Sword of Truth books and that tv show literally changed everything. Like a completely different version of the story, but with characters named the same. Very strange.

I know they'll have to cut a LOT, as long as they don't change things for no reason.

Not a big expert of HBO shows but I think they do sometime release new shows in summer. Still I would think this one might be more a winter release. Would be good if it were to be out summer next year, great 12 weeks of summer it would be

Man, I really cant wait for them to get this one on the air. Loved the books, and was ecstatic when I heard it was being made into a TV show.

Hopefully this does well, and someone says "Hey, lets do Eragon too!".
