Default The Departed-- Best Version?

So which is the best version of The Departed out there?

I see that the US version has a pretty low bitrate (to fit on the HD DVD).

There are 3 others that I know of:

UK version: released by EIV (DTS MA)
French steelbook: released by TF1 (DTS HR)
Italian version: released by Medusa (DTS Lossless)

So obviously the French version is out of the running.

Anyone know anything about the UK or Italian versions? How are the encodes? High bitrate? Region locked? NTSC extras?

I like the HK version the best.

It's entitled Infernal Affairs.

I know it does. But I'm looking for lossless sound AND a better picture, if I can.

I already have the US version.

I would normally agree, but The Departed actually has a decent UK release.

Totally behind you on this, I feel the U.S. version is a cheap knockoff, sorry Leo

But is it better than the US? Do we have the BDinfo on it?

Actually, EiV's Lucky Number Slevin is easily better than the US release, PQ wise.

The Departed from EIV was actually a very good transfer, I watched it the other night and I was very happy with it cos as said before EIV is usaully shit, I have about 6 films from them and the departed is the only good 1.

These people released the film Death Sentence in 1080i and it was terrible looking, so was Bangkok Dangerous. They need to get the transfers sorted but yeah The Departed was a good one for a change

EIV releases seem to be very variable technically.

I have their editions of 'The Notebook' and 'Rendition', both of which are very good. But their edition of 'Brokeback Mountain' had a totally botched layer change, which made my player actually pause for a couple of seconds.

Odd, but I actually thought that Death Sentence looked fine for a 1080i job.

Has anyone used BDinfo on it to see if it's the same encode as the US version?

Oh no man it was so grainy, it was a really good film and I only paid like £8 so I cant really complain I suppose. Dont know if you know this about the death sentence release but they gave it a 1080p menu but the film was in 1080i whats up with that.

Death Sentence is supposed to have strong grain. The 1080i encode is a high bitrate. There's no reason it won't look good unless your player/display can't deinterlace properly.

I guess I trust statistics more than people's eyes. That's why I'm hoping someone will run the BDinfo program on it.
