My Bloody Valentine has me hoping that maybe the film footage wasn't destroyed, but all signs and people in the know say it was. On the bright side, they said the same about MBV and (some/most of) it was discovered. Just like Jason, hope might not be dead even though it seems to be.
Years ago, Anchor Bay released an Army of Darkness DVD called The Official Bootleg Edition (and later included it in the DVD Boomstick Edition). This was an extended version of Army of Darkness with an alternate ending. The extended footage was kind of raw in some places. It was plainly obvious that it was spliced back into the film and have not been treated in years, yet they still released the cut. I think that if they did it for Army of Darkness, they can do it for The New Blood. Call it something like Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood: The Video Nasty Edition! Market it with the consumer knowing full well that the video on the newly inserted footage will not look as good as the footage that has been preserved over the years, but this is as good as it is going to get. I think it can be done.

As far as Voorhees mythology, that is definitely covered in the first two movies. There is no new ground being broken on that subject until Jason Goes to Hell - The Final Friday.

I disagree in a big way on Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood. Tina's story and her crappy doctor is a good plot. The characters are pretty fleshed out. The music is used VERY well. The setting is awesome. Kane's acting and and make-up job as Jason is awesome. The stalking scenes through the woods are awesome. I love the way the woods looked in this film. I loved the opening as well. I love everything about this movie.

I agree with this as well. Friday the 13th Part III had one of the best ending chase scene in the entire franchise and genre for that matter. Everything that occurs in the barn between Chris and Jason is cinematic gold.

I gotta agree with you there. And Jason's look in this movie is by far my favorite Jason look from the entire franchise.

Those trademark shrieking violins and haunting, eerie synths throw gobs of vintage 80's dread all over the films he fortunately graced with his talents during that era. Manfredini is an inseparable part of the Friday 13th legacy.
Yup. That's certainly one of the film's saving graces lol. The film is yes, a trainwreck, but the main reason I initially wanted to watch the movie was because Manfredini did the music.

Is it a good plot though? Lol. I'd have to disagree there. It's like a cheap knockoff of Carrie with worse acting and poorly fleshed out characters. The telekinesis angle is rightly criticized in my opinion, as it's not very well executed and made for a lazy confrontation with Jason. It doesn't really work and is just sorta...dumb.

I can understand people liking Part VII for what it is, it's certainly a hell of a lot better than the disaster that is Jason Takes Manhattan, but that doesn't exactly set a high bar and the plot is still pretty bad in both films.

Agree regarding Kane Hodder though. Jason's look in The New Blood was one of the best of the entire franchise. His makeup is just incredible.

The New Blood is an interesting entry.... It has so many of the same elements that made the earlier movies entertaining. It has a good atmosphere, good make up effects... Someone to root for even though It is a Carrie rip off of sorts.

It doesn't quite have the fun factor of the earlier 80's. I guess part of it is that everything had already become so self-aware. The film tries to give us the mist serious entry of the time in response to the fact that Jason Lives makes light of how ridiculous things have become.

It seems like an ultra serious Jason should work, but the supernatural elements gets in the way of that. It just leaves me feeling mixed on the whole thing.

For me, The New Blood is the second-worst of the series. John Carl Buechler was a poor makeup effects artist and a worse director. No amount of edited gore can make this a watchable movie.

In a series filled with nonsense, this movie has two of the most nonsensical issues of all: how is a long-dead, buried underwater guy with his spine exposed also bulked-up and not emaciated? And, why is a dead guy breathing so hard?

^^^ Same.

Not only is a bad Friday film, it's a subpar slasher as well with little to no gore. The characters are some of the most annoying in the entire franchise so with (almost) all the gore cut out, it doesn't leave you with many redeeming qualities.

While being a director was not his biggest attribute, don't you think you're being a bit harsh and exaggerating about his ability as a special fx make up artist?

Pretty much this. I'll start 7 as a curiosity piece just to revisit it, because it does have some cool woodsy atmosphere. But if I'm in the wrong mood to tolerate it, it becomes an eye-rolling brain-sucking slog that loses my interest pretty fast. 8 never even makes it to the player.

If what's already on disc is the best it can look, then this wouldn't work. The quality is just unacceptable. Maybe in 10 years, it can recreated in CGI and re-inserted into the film cheaply and seamlessly enough.

Yeah, that was the same as the 2-disc LE dvd where they had to use to beat to shit print on some of the director's cut. A beat to shit print can be cleaned to an extent, a VHS can do far less. It was also for dvd, so the quality jump wasn't as jarring as it would be on a nice HD scan.

Plus, all that footage was never lost. MGM had a nice dvd out somewhere overseas, either Korea or Hong Kong, which had the footage from a good source. Then they got the good source for the blu-ray set.

From all I have read about the Friday footage, Paramount has let many people in to look for it, and no one has ever been able to locate it. This has caused them to claim it lost forever, but the same shit happened with My Bloody Valentine and that footage re-surfaced 20some years later where it wasn't supposed to be. Sadly, I'm sure Friday was looked for much more vigorously and diligently so it very well might be gone. I'm hoping some disgruntled ex-employee made off with it and will either put it on the market (doubtful, the time to strike at that would've been when Scream was preparing the boxset) or it will surface when they die and someone goes through his or her shit.

I used to be one of the New Blood haters but, having watched the box set all the way through three times since release, it's grown on me (like a fungus, LOL). I still hate all the characters except Tina and the "good hunk next door" but it finally breached my defenses and I accept it as a decent, if unexceptional, entry. Still think Jason Takes Manhattan is hot garbage. It gets worse every time I watch it.

Also, The Hills Have Eyes, Part II is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. No, I am not kidding. I adore that flick. Pure fun with great atmosphere.

Even Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X are better than Hills Have Eyes 2 because many of their ideas might be bad, but at least they have some ideas.

As long as I forget it's supposed to be a Friday the 13th movie, I really like Jason Goes to Hell.

Jason X I'm just trying to forget about, period.

"Ideas" are fine as far as it goes, but I'm an atmosphere guy. When it comes to horror movies, mood and atmosphere with zero story will get you further than an okay idea but shot like a bad SyFy channel quickie on leftover sets from 70s "Doctor Who". And a F13 movie NOT set in the woods during a thunderstorm??? Nope -- Count me out.
