Default The Sony BDP-S560 Review Thread

I just received my new Sony BDP-S560 from Amazon.com. I set it up immediately and put it through its paces. Overall, this is a very nice player and the wireless network connection is a welcomed addition to the Sony Blu-Ray player line. Setup was straightforward and streamlined with the resulting picture really pristine.

The only drawbacks to this player that I have found (and this really irks me) is that there is no "EJECT" button on the remote. You physically have to get up, go to the player, and hit the eject button on the player. Now, this may seem petty, because you have to go to the player to load a new disc anyway, but it is a convenience that they actually took away which previous models incorporated. Another drawback is that contrary to popular belief, there are no analog 7.1 outs. So if your receiver uses this you're s.o.l. The only other drawback is that the remote is not backlit.

Invest in a Harmony One remote and your issues with backlight and eject go away. Along with the convenience of only needing one remote instead of juggling a remote for each of your components. Analog outs your SOL on however.

You can bet that code is out there. The only way to go is a universal remote and the code is probably the same as the 550.

If you have a Harmony One and a 1000 why are you even using the Sony remote?... I just hooked up the S360 (same as 560 without the wireless) and you can use eject with your Logitech remotes... I have the Harmony 880 and when I opened the program screen it was already setup for it...

If you saw my sig I have a Harmony One and it is programmed to use the S560. The problem with the "EJECT" is that Logitech does not program it into the setup for the S560. The hard-wired buttons of the One does not provide an EJECT feature and the "soft" buttons displayed on the touch screen does not include an EJECT feature.

Once again, the Logitech setup for the One or the 1000 does not program a soft button for EJECT for the S560. The S360 remote includes an eject button so Logitech programmed one into the setup for an S360. The S560 remote does not include an EJECT button so Logitech did not program one into the setup for an S560

Sorry I didn't look at your sig but you can use the 550 to set it up. I have the 360 which was the same issue and used the 350 to set it up so I have an eject. If there are any buttons missing, which I doubt, you can add them back in.

Try updating your Logitech software, because there is no eject button on the S360 but when I added it to my devices and selected program eject was already in there... The 360 & the 560 are exactly the same aside from WiFi, so if it works on mine it will work on yours...

Thanks I'll try that!

Also, for upconversion on DVD's, does the HDMI output have to be set Auto or 1080p?

The s360 is the same (related to the eject button the remote) but with the latest setup on the harmony site I am able to program one of the custom buttons on my 880 to do eject just fine. I have not used the Sony remote that came with the 360 other than on the day I got it. It is so nice to use 1 remote for everything and it's backlit unlike the bundled remotes.

It doesn't really matter which one you choose, Auto will output at 1080p if your TV is 1080p. For upconversion I personally don't think 1080p really applies. They say it's upconverted to 1080p but there's still an obvious difference between 1080p Blu-ray and upconverted DVD. Again that's my opinion, others find it hard to see a difference to which I reply "Are you freakin blind!"

I reprogrammed the One to use the S550 vice the S560 and everything seems to work fine and the Eject soft button is present.

Was not aware Sony had stripped the analog outs from this unit. I was looking at this and the older 550 for my brother and he needs the analog outs since his receiver is older and no HDMI.

I can now cross this one off the search list and try to find the 550.

Thanks!

I just received this as a birthday gift today from my wife to replace my dinosaur samsung 1200. I'm not completely sold on it it. I like the features and design but I feel like my 1200 was better in terms of PQ. Anyone care to share the settings on their s560 with me?

I'm assuming it's just like the s550 if so you should be very pleased.

I've owned my s550 for over a year and haven't had any issues with any discs and I watch a lot of movies.
