Yes because when I first tried to load the movie it was not connected. That is what sent me down the path of trying to figure out what was wrong. It still boils down to a memory card.

Eventually my drive to fix things got in my way. It really should not be this aggravating to get a movie to load don't you think?
I still think there should be a default 'play the longest PlayList' option on all players. That way if there's problems like this, you can at least still watch the film (assuming they don't have a bonus feature longer than the film I suppose... ).

My player at home has BD-Live turned off. I don't ever want it connecting to the internet for any reason... So I've never really had a problem with it (Wasn't it Iron Man that caused a whole lot of problems with downloads on release day? I never noticed because I wouldn't let my player connect...)

At the very least, I've learned not to let new releases touch the internet for at least a few days after the release...

But you are definitely correct, it should never be a hassle to get a movie to start playing... You have a happy customer with their new disc, and all they want to do is see the movie... If that doesn't happen in reasonable amount of time, you will quickly have a very unhappy customer... Can't be good for sales, regardless of where the 'fault' lies...

Ok I just went back to the system and took the SD card out and it has the same original problem.

Bottom line should be that Lionsgate and all the other studios should put on the back of the cover that " This movie requires either internal memory or an external SD card in order for the movie to load properly." If they want this format to have a lifespan, then they need to start this procedure now.

Hmm, interesting. We have a BD30 and a BD50 here. I tried it on both-
BD30 never showed the update screen at all (which I wouldn't expect, since it's not an internet-enabled player). A white screen with a small black square in the upper left corner appeared for a couple of seconds, and then the menus loaded (never saw this white screen on the PS3).

BD50- Did the 'checking for updates' thing, and then flashed the same white screen/black square for a couple of seconds and started loading the menus... It never asked me to download the update... Not sure why. One thing- no SD card in the player. Maybe the newer players now check the size of the download, and verify that there's room to download it first... Maybe the BD35 doesn't do this verification? Does the problem seem to be that it tries to download the update even without an SD card, and can't store the whole thing (or any of it)? As soon as I find an SD card, I'll try it again and see what it does...

The only BD that I have that had "hang time" was Braveheart. It only happened the first time I loaded it into my PS3 (note: I have BD-Live disabled). Once I reloaded it, the movie played fine.
This doesn't work. I recommend condoms.

BD 30 is not 2.0. You saw the same white screen with black square that I saw. On the 35 you do not see this " download the update" screen, it never loads unless you have the SD card installed.

I just tried it on my older Sony BDP-s500 (1.0 profile) and it loaded with no problem. ERRRR

which insignia player do you have? if your talking about the NS-BRDVD, a firmware was released for it about a month or so ago, if you haven't installed it then this may help, unless your talking about the N2-BRDVD.

i don't have the movie but i have an Oppo blu player but i still, in the basement have my NS-BRDVD, so once i get it i'll try it on both.

I've only read the first page but I can't believe how rude people were being to the OP.

I didn't have any issue getting it to play on my ps3 but I agreed to their EULA right away not knowing there could be an issue if you don't. It does however play very sluggish! I had to hit fast forward 3 times to get it to go at 10x. Then it takes a few seconds to recognize I've pressed pause or stop. It's a great movie IMO and the PQ is outstanding, but these issues are still disappointing.

Thx for that but my original post was alot more offensive to Lionsgate before I edited my post. I should never PWA (Post While Aggravated) again.

It appears that this problem disc will not load on certain 2.0 profile players unless you use an external memory card.

All 1.0 and 1.1 profile players such as the Panasonic BD-30 or Sony's BDP-300 or 500 will not have a problem because they can not use BD-Live.

All players that are 2.0 profile that have built in memory i.e. PS3 or the OPPO 83 will not have this problem.

Hope this helps anyone who wants to watch Crank 2. And maybe you will not do what I did and PWA.

BTW the bass in this movie is its only saving grace.

Worked fine for me. Rented it last night. Too bad I really didn't like the movie much at all. PQ and AQ were great, but the movie was just too far over the top for me. It "jumped the shark" with a certain scene at a pool.

Default Crank 2 does nothing on my two new players.

I own a Sony BD 360 and a Panasonic BD 60 and all I get is it tries to load but after a few minutes and a white screen and then audio starts and a 6" picture starts it stops. I have no Internet connection at all but with the newest players that have only been on the shelves a couple of months you would think that a firmware update is not necessary. Panasonic told me this is definately a disc issue from Lionsgate. I do not know what to do. VERY UPSET AND CONFUSED. Both of these players have never once hesitated on any disc and we use them alot. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but if you saw the first one and you know the character, it's supposed to be over the top! I can't wait to see it!
