Australia STAR TREK out earlier than expected ?

According to Ezy-DVD the film will be released later this month here in Oz in stead of the December release, oh well great news indeed if true

yuck. dont like 'Digital Copy' being so close to the title. If it can only be transfered once, the disc will be thrown away after use, so it will look stupid.

Digital copy is basically a smaller (ie less resolution, smaller file size) version of the film which can be downloaded to your computer, iPod, mobile etc. It's got digital rights management, so basically that means you can download it once and that's it. For some it's handy, but it holds no interest for me. I don't watch movies on the go, and if I own a Blu-ray of a film why the hell would I watch something lower quality?

Each to their own though.

As for the release date, it was set at 29/10 about 2 months ago when first announced. It's never had a different date here in Australia. I'm expecting to get a hold of it at my local Big W for a good price around the 27th as they usually put their stock out early.

I'm just glad our cover is OK. I still would've preferred the international poster (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...trekposter.jpg), but of all the official designs I think this one's the best.

Proud to say I rushed in to JB HiFi this morning to buy one of the very first "Star Trek" (2009) BD's on the shelf! RRP is AUD$42.97, Big W advertising at $37.96 but good ol' JB is letting them fly off the rack at a more friendly and affordable $29.98!

Had a sneak preview this arvo and let me assure you the picture and sound quality is awesome -- has to be seen to be believed. Course, doesn't compare with seeing it on a cinema screen or in IMAX format but it's still great. Not only a wonderful addition to the ST franchise, but one of the genuine hits of this year. Kudos to Abrams and Paramount and the cast!!

Can't believe we here in Australia are getting it ahead of Statesiders (U.S).

3-Disc edition does come in a new-look squarer BD case too. Not fussed over the option for BD-Live and wonder just how many people really use this feature?

Film: ***** Blu-ray ***** Extras *****

It will actually be more detailed on the blu when compared to imax, as imax applies DNR and artificial sharpening to feature films. I agree, a good cinema will blow away a home theatre.

I personally think the Blu-ray is better than the Imax version. I have now seen the film in four different versions:

1. World Premiere at Sydney Opera House - impressive visuals and it was a custom sound mix for the night that was crystal clear, loud and bassy!

2. Imax Sydney - The visuals were nice, but being that it wasn't filmed directly with Imax in mind some things didn't really play out as well in Imax (easy example is the place names like "Iowa" and "Vulcan" being placed at an almost invisible spot due to the size of the screen. Again, a loud mix but not a lot of bass. Saw Dark Knight at the same Imax and it was far more impressive.

3. Regular theatre - obviously the PQ and AQ wasn't as good as the others, but it was an OK presentation

4. Home - great presentation that matches the World Premiere as closely as possible. The images have a great depth and the sound has fantastic weight to it.

Personally I would rate the Premiere first, Home second, Imax third (only thing it had going for it better than home was screen size really) and the regular theatre last.

Lucky bugger.

The missus wouldn't wait, and trying to contact JB she was given the impression all the JBs were closed for stocktaking today, so she had me pick it up from KMart for $42 after work. So yeah, I paid the RRP, but hey, it's not like this movie's not worth it.

Half way through watching it too, and it's been great. Very impressed with the picture and audio quality thus far.

All JB's were closed yesterday (Tues) for stocktaking. Today was the start of the stocktake sale. Big W is the cheapest at $29.87 followed by JB.

Transfer is excellent and the extras aren't bad either! Though I would of liked it in an Amaray case instead of the boxy new ones.

They will all soon be boxy cases. First Fox now Paramount. A mate is coming over tomorrow to watch it my place. So first home viewing.

Saw it at the Vmax cinema at Greater Union and it looked and sounded great then.
