Default Warner dropping HD DVD earlier than expected ?

At least on the French market...

According to
http://www.hdnumerique.com/actualite...en-france.html

Translation
Quote:
If we believe the press planning of the next releases of Warner Home Video on the French market, it seems that the editor will finally drop the HD DVD format earlier than expected. The company had originally anounced that it would effectively stop its HD DVD releases starting on May 31st 2008.

This relatively short delay was allowing the release in France of important titles such as "The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford" or "In the Valley of Elah".

No HD DVD release is figuring anymore on that planning, except for "Le Gout de La Vie" (No Reservations) and "A Vif" (The Brave One) visibly awaited for April 2nd and April 16th on the French market.

No modifications are expected on the planning of the editor for Blu Ray releases.
Wonder if this is a sign of things to come for Warner US ?

We can all speculate on that actual date...

But, does it really make a difference?

The only thing that will make a difference to me personally is when they stop screwing up BD titles by putting lossless audio on their releases, and stop using those horrid hd dvd encodes.

Hopefully it will mean the drop it in the US earlier then announced. It makes no difference in terms of Blu-Ray being the next high def format but may mean Blu-Ray optimized releases from Warner sooner than expected!

I hope it happens sooner rather then later, but the end result will be the same no matter what. What i'd like to know is when Para. and Uni. are going to release their frist titles on Blu.

I justdon;t care anymore HD-dvd is not news, and has not been for about 3 or 4 weeks. Let them put out what ever they want, the war is over and BD won

There was a similar report out of Germany a week or so ago. However, it is irrelevant at this time.

Whether or not Warner will up their standards because of dropping HD DVD will have to be seen. I certainly hope they do.

If they are planning to improve, that's probably something they are working on now.

It would be a wise buisness move to cut their losses and not release anymore movies for HD-DUD. Why bother, many stores are cutting their HD-DUD selections down. My local target has shrunk their stock of HD's down and explanded their Blu stock. Not many stores will want to sell any new releases. They know they're not going to be making as much money off of them now.
