okay, so I'm sure this will get people creative juices flowing. I need suggestions since I am considering finally replacing my 15 year old NHT VT-1 speaker system in my dedicated theater (you can see pics in the community section). The NHT's still sound great but I have a feeling they may be a bit short on producing the best possible sound quality with the new lossless codecs (especially the sub, which from time to time, crackles at scenes with heavy LFE, but not all the time). Not sure what specs people would need to make suggestions but my room is about 32x15, cinder block walls with theater-style heavy curtains hung on the sides from front to back that the guy who installed my theater said would create an even better sound environment that was already there and he was right. I am using an Outlaw 950 pre/pro (thinking of upgrading to Outlaw's new 997 if it ever comes out and have been looking at the Emotiva UMC-1 also) with an Oppo BDP-83 blu-ray, Oppo 983H dvd player and a Pioneer CLD-99 laserdisc player connected to a Panasonic TH-65PZ850U plasma. Just thought some of the experts out there could lead in the right direction since I have absolutely no knowledge when it comes to AQ. So have it, people, and thanks so much ahead of time.

First off, let me say that you a very nice HT steup and you've obviously put some serious thought into when you created it.
As Prerich said, NHT's are fine speakers and they don't care whether you throw compressed or uncompressed, lossy or lossless at them. I agree that you should replace your subwoofer first, since you are having issues, then work on your calibrations. If, after this, you still think that you could get better sound, look at upgrading and give us a budget to work with. John PS~ You have very nice equipment and this HT of yours is definately rockin'. |
