I bought one because at the time I DID NOT HAVE $500+ for a Blu-Ray player, so CircuitCity was running a special that I wanted to take advantage of because it came with several movies all for $179.99 and I already had an XBOX360, so it was(In my opinion) a smart move at the time given my money situation. Then as I got more money around I eventually bought a Blu-Ray player. I now use the 360 add-on for those titles that are not on Blu-ray, but if a title is available on Blu-ray you can bet your ass that I'm picking it up on Blu. I whole heartidly want Blu-ray to win this war.

Look at it as if you were buying a house or car. Say you get married and you want a house that is 4000sqft with 5bdrms and 4 baths but you don't have the money for it..... what do you do? Keep living with mommy? Or grow up and purchase what you can afford and fits your lifestyle at the moment. Later on you might be able to buy the house you've always wanted.

Same goes for a car. My first car was a 1992 Toyota Celica GT with 158,000 miles and its not what I wanted at first, but was I going to miss out on driving privilages? NOPE! So this applies to high definition in my opinion. I wanted to join the HD side, and I did; even though I didn't have the funds to get what I really wanted. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices.

But in the same regard, think of all the movies they can get in HD that you can't. I prefer BD, but I also want to see Transformer, Bourne, etc in HD. You might want to punch me in the neck, but I get to watch all available movies in HD. That is probably worth a neck punch.

Yes, more than likely most people here will buy the DVD version of Transformers.......especially if the HD DVD is a combo like they claim....

Lol.

Strictly Blu here. I even got an Xbox 360 a few days ago. No plans on buying the HD-DVD addon at all.

HOWEVER - when Blu has won and HD-DVD is headed down the drain, I will pick one up on the cheap if I can for nostalgic reasons. Will never use it though

LIAR!! HAHA

You know, after it does roll over and is ready to be flushed down the drain; It would be really cheap to buy movies/players. I'm sure even when Blu-ray is declared winner that some of the movies already on HD DVD won't be re-released onto Blu-Ray. That happened with some VHS to DVDs that everybody thought was going to happen and never did.

I can see it now....3 months after Blu-ray wins you're going to go onto ebay and find nearly new HD DVD players bundled with 25 movies for $50.

There will always be a little itty bitty small teeny tiney part of me that wouldn't mind trying out HD-DVD. However, even saying that - makes me feel dirty and icky.

So I shall refrain from even "going there". Im all Blu so don't spam with TRAITOR!!! Lol

I'll tell you what. As soon as you have a collection of Blu-ray as big as dual format owners, then you can throw rocks. Until then, how about not trying to pick fights with other blu-ray supporters and buying some blu-ray titles instead?

I support Blu-ray with my wallet. Talk is cheap.

PS. blu_world, I'd change your sig if I were you because you are making the rest of us look bad.

What about the possibility of Jaws, ET, Jurassic Park, and Back to the Furture? And it is not all just about blockbusters - there are a lot of great movies only on HD-DVD.

I have to say that I don't get why some people buy those expensive dual format players though.

Mindless fanboyism. It really makes you sound no better than the zealots at AVS who shill HDDVD to no end. You present a pretty weak argument for why someone should only support Blu-ray here. So, don't buy a 360 add on because you can use that money to buy more blu-ray disc's? OK, well just to play devils advocate, aren't some people getting like 7 movies free with the purchase of an HD add on drive? And If for the purpose of supplementing your collection with titles not available on Blu-ray, wouldn't that be a good move for someone who is a fan of movies in High def?

Look, I can pretty much guarantee you blindly that I have/own more blu-ray disc's than you do. And I probably own more BD players than you too. And I can guarantee you I do more for supporting blu-ray than you could ever dream of, in the way of informing customers on a daily basis at work, Help in Running a Blu-ray related web-site, Spending the better part of my online time Informing people on the merits of blu-ray on this and other website forums, Voting with my wallet etc. But guess what? I own HDDVD too!

Now look, I understand you want one format and I can respect that (hell I do too). But just because You may have a lack of desire to own movies from all studios or you have the self discipline, whatever it is, don't assume that makes you a better supporter of the format. I could scream at the top of my lungs that HDDVD sucks and Blu-ray rules in the middle of the street, but if thats all I'm doing is that helping end the format war? No.

What helps is voting with your wallet, buying/renting whatever it is you can do educating consumers, those kinds of things. Disparaging other people or products never builds credibility, it only makes you look like a salesman or politician with an agenda....people do this:

This is where I currently stand:

I currently own over 120 Blu-ray Disc's, with about 35 to buy over the next 3 months. (and like the energizer bunny, i'll keep going and going)
I currently own about 60 HDDVD's with about 10 or so to buy over the next 3 months. (was about 20, this list has already been cut in half do to poor reviews on many titles)

Everything that I want thats available on both, I buy on Blu-ray. I recommend Blu-ray to anyone who asks what they should get. I support Blu-ray Disc and would prefer they win the format war.

But you know what? I put myself and my wants before those of The Blu-ray disc Association or DVD forum. I owned Beta & VHS, Tapes & CD's...Genesis, SNES & TurboGrafx, I owned Dreamcast Ps2 & Xbox and I own 360 an ps3 too!
I won't sit on the sidelines missing out on a movie or a game that I want to see/experience, just because of some dumb war. I am prepared to have all this stuff up on Ebay the day I hear News of Universal (and now Paramount too ) switching to neutral or Blu. But I haven't seen any sign of that happening. If anything...the opposite after the PM/DW news. So It's been a year and a half, and we still have no end in site. And PM/DW has basically another 18 months of being locked in to HDDVD, So Am i to wait 3 years for some of my favorite movies of all time? How as a consumer does this benefit me? Look I just wanna watch movies. Sure, I agree Blu-ray disc's looks better....and Sound better most times, But HDDVD is a hell of a lot better than the alternatives, which are DVD or Nothing! Yeah it's second best, but it's close enough for me to deal with it, to have something infinitely better than cable HD, or Down-loadable HD (via 360). Look I have the utmost respect for you guys that stick to one, I wish I had that discipline. I wish I didn't Love movies so much in High definition that I didn't have to buy 3-4 a week. I wish I could do-with-out. But I can't....and I can respect others like myself. What I can't understand though is someone who owns both and can say they prefer HDDVD. Uh uh, no way, no how!

So do what you want, say what you will. This Blu-ray supporter owns both, prefers Blu-ray (wishes he didn't have to own both), but will be damned if I'm gonna let studios sway me into a stalemate because they can't make up their frigging minds. In this war, I got it all....I win.
Blu-ray disc is the superior format, we all know that....but sorry folks, I want my cake and eat it too! Some hell many might say by buying both I am helping to prolong the war. My asnwer to that is this....BDA, bring the HEAT...Open up the catalogs....make it rain Blu-rays. Make there be so much content available I don't have time to look anywhere else. (it's like the guy who can't get any trim from his wife so decides to cheat, had she been giving it up....he most likely never would have never went that route) But Til that happens, I'll be be getting mines, but i'll only love her, Blu-ray

my 2 pennies.
