I hate Comcast - if Verizon's CO was closer to my house, I would drop them for a slower DSL speed.
Their video quality is horrible (compressed) and their line-up, while OK now, is still less in my area on HD than what I could get with Directv or Fios When Verizon runs the fiber in my neighborhood, I will be the first to sign up... I am using a Netgear WNR2000 - the reviews weren't the best but I got a good Black Friday deal at a time when I needed a router and was looking for something with 802.11 draft-N speeds. I find it more than adequate for my needs and it outperforms what I had there previously (Vonage Linksys - garbage and D-Link DI-624 - good but old) Watch for Comcast's pricing - lock it in for an additional year if you like their service within the first 30 days...mine went from $99/month to $183/month after the promo (no premiums) - scumbags |

Yeah I'd check with Verizon the speed Comcast offers at least where we live isn't near what Verizon was offering I think like a 5-10 mbps difference just on the download side.
I don't like Verizon menu's as much as direct tv, but I know our Dtv bill alone was 300 a month, then with phone at 30 or something for phone, then internet at like 100 or 130. Now we have everything at 200 or 250 with Verizon so, much better deal. I'm probably biased because back in the early 00's when Comcast had the monopoly in our area with being the only cable internet we had to go a month without service because they wouldn't come out or provide help. So me personally I'd never go back unless I had to. |

I used to have Comcast and dropped them like a hot potato for Dish Network. I do miss the internet service though. It was much faster and more reliable than the AT&T DSL I have now.
I'll point out as well that in my experience the deals with switching from one company to another usually aren't as great as you think they're going to be once you start getting the bills. The prices they quote you are usually good and all, but once all the taxes and fees are tagged on they're not so great any more. |

I'd deff take the 15 over 1.5-3mbps. Just make sure you check their website every 6 months because if they increase their basic HS internet they won't tell you, I had to have my mom call because I checked the site and they were selling 15 and she still had her 3 or 5 mbps from like 2001. |

No idea about Comcast since I don't use em, but for a router I can't recommend the Apple AirPort Express enough: http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/
I have one, bought it for $80 refurbished, and it's amazing. Comes with Wireless N tech, so you're set for whatever the future holds. I'm signed up for 12MB/sec with Cox Internet, but get 26MB a second with the router. |

Whoa, Dish was more expensive than Comcast???
![]() ![]() We had Dish for a few years, LOVED everything about it except I couldn't stand not being able to watch Yankee games on YES, so we switched to DirecTV. We were paying around $75-80/mo. for the 2-room DVR plus another TV. The switch to cable for what we needed would've cost us ~$115/mo. before taxes etc. |

And the AirPort Express is the router. You hook it into your modem. Then, it broadcasts the wireless signal all over the house. I have mine set up behind my TV, since my cable modem is there. I use it for PS3 gaming and BD Live with no problems whatsoever. It works with both Windows and Mac operating systems. If you check out the link, you'll find videos and all that to help you understand it better, if my descriptions and explanations weren't that good. |

I used to have Comcast and dropped them for satellite because of the absolutely abyssmal customer service. On two separate occasions, I had to take an entire day off work (because they will NOT give you a window of time) to have repair service done.... only to have the serviceman never show. On the second occasion, I called continually throughout the day to confirm my appt, and was repeatedly assured that yes they would be there. I called every half hour as it got past 3PM, and was still assured they would be there. He never showed. When I called to complain, I was ACTUALLY informed by one of the service operators that it was "not their job" to call me and tell me if the repairman couldn't make it. That did it. Instant cancellation.
In contrast, DirecTV has always provided prompt service, and even allowed me to specify service times after 4PM so I would not have to miss work just to take care of tv issues. It wasn't a factor in my decision, but I found PQ & AQ to be better with satellite than cable. |

I think it really depends on your local Comcast office. My parents experience with Comcast in NorCal has been excellent - good customer service, lots of HD channels, lots of free OnDemand, and better picture quality than friends of theirs with satellite in the area. They bought up so many smaller cable systems over the years that it seems the quality really varies from one area to the next based on some of the replies I've read here.
