Default My bloody valentine 1981 blu - ray deleted scenes question.

Im waiting for the blu ray to arrive from amazon, so i have to ask. Are the deleted scenes, that are said to be in the special features section , the same scenes that are on the extended cut part of the blu ray?? Or are these totally diffrent scenes in the special features ???

Could someone who has this blu-ray PLEASE tell me why why why - when I rented this from netflix on blu-ray and watched it it did not have any of the uncut footage in all of the death sequences?

Are there multiple versions of this release on blu-ray? My release is from lionsgate.

It had the extra footage as deleted scenes under special features.

It was really painful to watch this and get half way through realizing it was the edited version. Then, stopping the disc and trying to find the way to watch it with the uncut scenes.. and then.. failing.. and basically suffering through a so-so slasher film that would actually be pretty cool if it had the gore intact.

Thanks for any help on figuring this out.

If it was a menu option I must be completely blind.

You can either watch the movie with the deleted scenes added in or seperate, so I'm guessing you didn't to watch the movie with the added scenes.

I did not see any option in the menu to watch one version or the other...

It just said 'play movie' as far as I could see.

And under set up it had audio and subtitles.. sometimes there you can choose the cut to see.

I am going to try again when I get home but I swear there is no option.

If you or someone can be more specific on how to watch the full uncut version I would appreciate it!

Even though it's too late, our movie night was ruined either by this disc not having the option or by our own incompetence.

I wouldn't say VHS quality, more like something from an old worn print of a 16mm film.

It seems I remember reading around the time of Lionsgate's dvd release (which predated the BD by about a year, I think) that the cut gore footage existed literally only on an old SD video master which had been taken from the 35mm footage, and it had been cleaned up/color timed to the best of their ability to match the rest of the film. Point being that on the BD version, the restored footage is not actually HD quality, but closer to dvd. I want to say this was said by someone involved with the dvd's production. I could be wrong on this, though.

THIS is one of the deleted scenes.

It isn't good, but it's certainly taken from a film source of some kind.

Nevermind, the restored footage is definitely film sourced. From an article on Shocktillyoudrop.com:

"For years rumors circulated that the footage was nonexistent. Lost forever to time. Others said one of the producers had a cut and that ultimately proved to be true. Dunning had provided Ventrella with a VHS that contained a version of the film with glimpses of unseen footage. Then, one day, Dunning peered into his storage facility located in Canada and "found boxes of 35mm footage," recounts Ventrella. "He didn't really know what it was, didn't really know if this was the lost footage he suspected it was and sent us this material. We were like kids on Christmas morning when we got the packages and opened them up. This was indeed the material that had been lost."

"It was in surprisingly good condition because it's cold up in Canada and the film must keep well," Ventrella laughs. "But the 35mm film was an interpositive. It wasn't the original negative, it was a strike made from the negative, so it was pretty nice and close to the original. The picture itself was nice, it had a tiny bit of fading, but we color corrected it, so I think it's close to the final color corrected version of the release feature."

Guess I was thinking of another flick.
