Default Onkyo 607 or Yamaha 665

Which one is better? May replace my Pioneer VSX 518.

I'd go with the Yammy, it's got both 7.1 inputs and 7.1 pre-outs. the pre-outs gives you the best path for upgrading to seperates in the future allowing you to keep the Yammy longer and use it as a pre-amp out to future seperate amps. This would be a step up over both your Pio & the 607.

imo

best of luck, keep us posted.

I agree with solarrdadd. My biggest complaint against the 60X Onkyo receivers is the lack of pre-outs.

This is exactly what I was going to say, go with the Yamaha.

I say the Yamaha too,

1 for the pre-outs and

2 because I don't care for the sound of Onkyo receivers.

I would say if you can find the 765 for around the same price as the 665, then get that one, as you probably won't be adding an amp anytime soon, cause I know you, and the extra investment in the 765 would be the better long term solution.
but thats just my preference.

The wife was in a buying mood so I thought I would try to take advantage of it. No luck though on the AVR. The new plasma is good enough for now.

I think you mean six inputs. It only has one output.
