Default My dream led to a great idea....

I was sleeping last night and had a great dream that all of the retailers were giving out free bluray players for each HD DVD player that was brought back to them....Wouldnt that be just amazing if "exclusive" companies like Target and Blockbuster started doing that?

I don't think they can afford that.

I think they would lose alot on $$$$ on that one, but it would be great to see the HD's go away and Blu take over the world in total domination.

sorry for that, a little DR evil coming out of me

You'd sell a hell of a lot dud players to be traded in on Blu as well as creating a whole lot of neutral folks when they could own both formats at that price.

I suspect the best you could do is if you buy a BD player and trade in your HD-DVD player you could get say an additional 5 free BD movies or something, TBH it would be a campaign and the stores that did this I can't see making money on it...

They couldn't do that otherwise people would just buy the hddvd player(even if they wanted the bd player) and then immediately trade it in to save money.

The 5 free bd movies wouldn't be bad tho.

What about a $100-$150 exchange credit on any new Blu-ray player or PS3 for a HD-DVD player or XBox add-on drive brought in?

Offering a few blu-ray movies for trading in the player could work. Or maybe a $100 credit toward a player.

In the end the marketing would take HD DVD players out of the homes and into the landfills. But what about the movies? 1 for 1 trade? Again, they get nothing from this except the potential of more blu-ray sales.

I definitely dont think they can afford to do it, but it would be great to see it happen. Lots of BR's going out and lots of HDDUDS being taken back. I think a trade in would be a great idea. Might sway a lot of HDDUDDERS to go Blu or at least neutral.
