Default "2010 is PS3's year" say (wait for it...) Activision

Now be honest... who expected Activision to ever release any positive news internally RE:- PS3

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/n...-xbox-360.html

"according to their internal sales numbers, PS3 will sell at least 9 million units this year, while 360 will sell approximately 8 million"

That's as maybe... I'm just taken aback to see Activision stating such figures themselves, considering their reputation as 360's butt chums!

Well, their public rhetoric and internal numbers are two different things completely.

I think that approximately 8 mil for the 360 is quite optimistic unless they are counting failure replacements in their figures...

I'll say the 360 will sell a low end of the 7 mil range for 2010...and imagine if the PS3 dropped in price even to $249, the 360 would stand no chance - even of they priced the elite at $199 and the arcade at $149 (or even $99)...

Blu-ray is much more popular now and the install base for a $249 PS3 is in place to where it can now be a household name like the PS2 was - it's just taking the PS3 longer to come down to a reasonable price for average Joe to fork over the money for such a "luxury"...

PS3 should sell close to 8.5 mil, maybe more and the 360 will probably be good for 7.2 mil...or worse...

Here's some shipped worldwide numbers for the 360 and PS3:
2005
360 - 5 million

2006
360 - 6.6 million
PS3 - 4.2 million

2007
360 - 8.7 million
PS3 - 10.0 million

2008
360 - 11.1 million
PS3 - 9.6 million

2009
360 (Q1 through Q3) - 8.8 million
PS3 (Q1 through Q2) - 9.7 million

So the PS3 is having it's best year ever, and looks like it'll definitely outsell the 360, but there's no way it's going to sell in the low 7 million range.

By the way, these are all by Microsoft's fiscal calendar.

I just figure with the global economy going downhill that there will be one of two scenarios...

1. people stop buying frivolous gaming systems when they are broke...gaming is a luxury and not a necessity.

2. people will buy more games to pass the time with what's going on...

I think people will buy less games and I am also considering how many people already have a 360 and that their numbers should slow some with the current libraries being what they are and the fact that anyone who has waited this long isn't exactly a "fanboy" - they are extremely casual...

isn't Activision releasing some sort of Halo on steroids game onto the PS3, or is that Bungie (since they are now together)

Bungie is releasing a game that's being published by Activision.

And, they've been right from a gaming perspective. They've been correct from a gaming AND sales (software and hardware) perspective for 2009.
