Default Direct TV

Hello everyone!!

i just moved into my new apartment and i was wondering if direct tv makes you sign some kind of agreement contract with them?

For those who have direct Tv what kind of likes and dislikes do you have?

thanks

Even though I have Dish Network, it depends on how long you wanna keep it. I plan on keeping my Dish for a long time because Time Warner is expensive and plus Dish carries NFL Network. Dish Network and Direct TV are similar but carry different package deals. Direct TV has the Sunday NFL Ticket where you can watch any game and all Dish has is NFL Network and many other channels.

I have had DirecTV for a couple of months now. I love it. The Hi Def channels are great. Plus, the incentives to join are nice. I just cashed in my $50 gift card this morning on amazon. I tried to pre-order That's Entertainment in Blu, but had so much trouble with getting the card to work properly--that's not DirecTV's fault. (By the time I figured it all out and got it activated properly, I got The Wild Wild West season 3 on SD. But that's another matter entirely.)

My problem is that I'm watching so many Blu-ray movies and other Blu titles right now that I don't have nearly enough time to watch Hi Def channels--except an ESPN broadcast now and then.

I don't believe I have a firm contract, per se. I believe I have to keep it for a year or so, but I certainly have no reason to cancel it at this point. But I am very happy with the service and their product.

If you get a deal on the HD DVR, you have a 2 year commitment. Otherwise, you have to pay more than $300 for the HDDVR.

I think you have the option of no contract but not much incentives.

If you get a contract, you usually get packages.
When I signed up, I received about $200 in promo, a $50 VISA gift card and hopefully a portable DVD player.

Likes:
a. HD Channels
b. Lots of programming
c. HD-DVR Plus FTW!
d. Record 2 shows simultaneously while watching a different show

Dislikes:
a. Non-HD channels
b. Tier packaging
c. BIG dish ( 5LNB )
d. Separate dish for international packages ( if you want one )
e. Needs two wirings for (Likes: d) to happen

Lots of info here: www.dbstalk.com

Have been a Direct TV customer for a while and will remain one until Time Warner gets their head out of the butt on the NFL network issue.
I previously had DISH but cancelled (had a 30 free trail that cost me $100) due to reception problems. My channels were nowhere near as clear as cable or Directv. However, friends with dish said my installer did a poor job peaking the dish.

Correct. If you take the deal to get the equipment and installation for FREE, you are hooked into a 2 yr commitment.

Note that you can float the commitment if needed. For example, if you remodel your home and cannot use the service for a year while construction is in progress, they will suspend billing during that period. I say that because you can use that float concept in case you hit a financial problem and cannot pay the $60 monthly for a period of time. Anything can happen in your life 1-2 yrs down the line. You're still locked in...but having breathing room if needed.

Otherwise you need to shell out the $300+ per DVR at signup (or whatever equip you choose).

The current web deal right now is very good. They discount each package by $20 per/mo for 12 months.

I've been with them since 99. Love the service. I went with them and dropped Dish because I'm a big NFL fan and wanted the Sunday Ticket package.

Now on the flip side, "Professional Installation" is an oxymoron in their vocabulary.

True - but I found this to be true with cable and Dish also.

Luckly I learned from the past and hired my own installers to run the cables when I got DTV.

I signed on with DirecTV a few years ago and when HD broadcasts began, I had to choose what to do--whether to upgrade my service or go some other route. I am all about reducing my monthly payments and the prospect of raising payments for the HDTV service led me to cancel my DirecTV and install an antenna on my roof. Now I am getting off-the-air broadcasts in HD for free.

But DTV does offer a good service and they are a responsive company unlike comcast. I just can't justify the monthly cost for so much content that I never watch. Once the introductory pricing period ends, the prices are high and it adds up.

I can't find any info on deal on their site. Where is it?

As far as I know you have to pay $200 and the 2 year contract in order to get the HD DVR unless you already have DirecTV and are just upgrading. Otherwise you can only get the HD receiver (sans DVR) for free.

How can you miss it. It's right on the home page:

"EXCLUSIVE ONLINE OFFER: SAVE $20/MO FOR 12 MONTHS".

Maybe I'm not understanding your question.

EDIT: if you talking about FREE equipment, you need to start the process of selecting a package a and selecting equipment. you'll see the discounts in your cart. btw...they seemed to have stopped the FREE EQUIP/INSTALL details on their home page since it is now standard across the board.

ADDITIONAL NOTE ABOUT HD: HD equipment is not FREE, only SD equipment. if you want HD, you'll get a discount on the 1st DVR and pay about $99 for add't HD recievers. Install is FREE however.

No one can touch D* for HD right now. And since you are here we know that is what is important. HD shows.
