Default New guy to the fight

Hi everyone, This is my first time posting but ive been reading the forum a lot. I am not new to blu ray, Ive had my 20gb PS3 since launch and used it quite abit, but I never had a hd display so I never bought blu ray movies. Two months ago I bought an hd projector with a 100 inch 16:9 screen to replace my sd projector and oh my god it is insane! dvd movies look like crap compared to the blu rays. I was soo happy to be in the hd world, and started planing my first purchases.

Well since I have a kid I missed alot of movies at the theater, like transformers.I was so exited to get to see transformers as it was meant to be seen, but when the commercials came on I saw they said hd dvd or dvd. I checked into it and found that it was true, no blu ray transformers. I was sad, I didnt even know a format war was going on. After looking into it, blu ray was a better format, mainly because it can hold more and transfer faster, so in the future that allows more to be done with it. BD also has more movies I want so to buy a hd dvd player for only a few movies seemed like a bad thing, especially since this is a format war and its fought through sales and numbers on paper. So I decided to wait it out, watch my bd movies and be happy. In time I would get to see the hd dvd stuff if the format died.

Well....despite the pain in the ass a format war is, I found an equalizer. I got my directv upgraded to hd, got the hd dvr, and just RECORDED TRANSFORMERS IN HD!!! I am happy now HD DVD challenged me. They said if you want our movie in hd you gotta buy our player and disks. I said no and found a different way, so I feel like a winner. Now I hope blu ray wins the war soon cause I do like to have the disks to when I really like movies, but having the movie is the most important part.

Oh, and transformers looked great in hd!

...can you imagine if you had bought an HD-DVD player just for Transfomers??

I mean, the movie was ok and all and probably looks sweet in HD...but then what??? Shrek 3???

HD-DVD has nothing else really of interest. So Im glad you found a way around it without having to support the dead format and continue this retarded war.

+1 The only movies I want that are on HD-DVD are the Bourne series. Beyond that, I couldn't care less about their releases.

Yup, I am not a huge shrek fan, bourne is ok and all, but really there isnt much exclusive I want on hd dvd. But I am kinda evil, as soon as the war is over, ill buy a cheap hd dvd player just to have one. Right now I am filling my laserdisc collection as they are cheap now, and most people are confused when they see a optical disk the size of an LP

We were all pretty upset when Paramount accepted that check, but all indications are that Paramount and Dreamworks are just on an 18 month contract. I imagine they'll be back pretty much the day that ends and one of their first releases for Blu will be Transformers.

And Universal and Paramount both have a lot of decent movies I would like to own, both catalog and coming up next year. It's easy to say that they have nothing, and while they might have less overall in decent exclusives, it's certainly not nothing in my opinion.

Oh I agree, they do have some good stuff, which is why I dont like the format war. But in comparison, there isnt a lot that I gotta see, and alot of thier good stuff I have already see. Its the new stuff I cant see in theaters (due to my kid) that is most important to me though and not alot of it is comming out of universal or paramount. Simpsons,Die Hard 4, Ratt, Transformers. These were the movies I didnt get to see last year and really wanted too. Only transformers is unavailable on bd. Now all I gotta see is simpsons

No I havent, I was a little worried since some of Mels movies are great, some kinda stink. But I have had a few people recommend it so I think I just may need to check it out.
