Default How About A BD/HD Fight!

It's often been said that leaders of countries should fight it out instead of killing thousand of troops to settle their diffrences....

You want a real war.... release Spiderman (BD) and Transformers(HD) at the same time on the same day during the christmas holiday....see what happens....Spiderman will kill'em!!!

Don't give in to Paramount's BS move, buy Transformers on regulard SD and be happy about it...."Never let your enemy see you sweat!!"

I still think the real test isn't different studios with different movies going head to head. The true test would be a highly anticipated day & date release on both formats.

EDIT: I mean for more studios than just WB. I know BD 300 gave HDDVD a whomping :EDITdone

My personal opinion is that BD is technically and physically superior. It allows for more storage and higher bit rates translating directly into better quality of both picture and audio. That is why I chose BD.

Having said that, there is some merit to your idea, in that this is a true test of which movies/studios(and therefore HDM format) command the bigger audience as far as us HD optical disk early supporters are concerned.

i say an HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray Superbowl half-time football battle reminiscent of the Bud Bowl. that would be awesome.

Buying SD it not the same as an HD purchase. To Boycott the movie sends so many diffrent signals... Face it, it's a hot movie...Being happy about it was just a figure of speech......Now on to the fight!!!

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to fight night on the MGM...tonight we have the mother of all battles, to determin who will reign supreme as the ULTIMATE HD FORMAT!!!

In your right corner, the raining champion representing Blu Ray weighing in a 210lbs SPIDERMAN!!!!! (crowd goes wild a few boos)

and in my left corner weighin in at 2500lbs representing HD/DVD "The TRANSFORMER"!!!! (crowd chears will a few more notible boos)

Ding, ding....Round one....Fight!!

Comentator: Holy cow folks! Spiderman races across the mat and swings wildly at the Transformer, stright head shot that barely missed.....spidey delivers a connecting right cross that dazed the Transformer! the transformer knees are buckling and spidey delivers a hard left jab to the bread basket!! now a left upper cut followed by a right cross, the transformer takes a quick step back and....Oh no!!!! The transformenr just kicked spidey in the family jewls (equivilant to paramount 150 mil dirty deal) and spidey drops to one knee...the transformer is laughing, the ref steps in and call a time out......well after a quick check by the ref, spidey is ok and back to his feet, the ref is now talking to the transformer and he's deducting a point! Both fighters back in the center of the ring....ding ding.... and that ends round one folks!! (crowd goes wild)

Anyone care to jump in and give blow by blow for round two?

OK I'm pretty sure (but not positive) Spiderman isn't 210 pounds...

And 2500 pounds is a VERY small transformer hehe.

I can understand the boycott, really....however the purchase of a SD movie isn't the same as supporting the HD/DVD... Let say they sell a million copies of the movie and of that million only 100 thousand were HD..if a poll were taken, about 250 thousand of those SD purchased were from Blu Ray owners..... Oh yea, they will take notice so will the other studios....

Boycott the movie, youre telling the director his movie sucks
Boycott the movie, youre telling the writers the movie sucks and so on and so forth.

I'll purchse the movie and while I'm at it, I'll tell the manager of the store how I wish it were on Blu Ray, I'll tell the cashier that I wish it were on Blu Ray etc.. etc.. etc...

Word of mouth about what you want to managers, employees, etc..beleive it or not helps.....(unless they are HD fans) Sooner or later it will filter to the right places.....have faith!

but why supports a company that has touted the consumer line and then makes an anti-consumer act? by not supporting the company in general, you are sending an even greater message and an even better one to the bottom line.

Exactly right.

HD-DVD studios will not go BD from a position of STRENGTH...rather from a position of WEAKNESS.
By buying these studio's products, you are, in effect, strengthening their financial position and discouraging them from looking for greater sources of income.

The ignorance of the average person is amazing. Congrats to many/most/all for being average.

"It allows for more storage and higher bit rates"

Right.

"translating directly into better quality of both picture and audio."

Wrong.

It translates into the possibility for 1080p. That's it. If yout set doesn't support 1080p there's zero difference. Since the only way to see the benefit of 1080p over 1080i is to sit within 1 foot of a 60 inch or larger screen, the benefit of BD over HD is that the extra storage capacity allows Sony and Disney to put extra garbage on the same disc as a movie, rather than putting it on a second disc. Yay.

The difference between BD and HD is in the ability to read information faster. HD can't extract information fast enough to generate a 1080p signal, and bluray can. Audio tracks aren't large enough to get any benefit from either format over standard DVD.

"but why supports a company that has touted the consumer line and then makes an anti-consumer act?"

HD uses existing DVD technology in the manufacturing process, so anyone currently able to make DVDs can press HD without significant additional capital costs. BD uses different technology, wholly owned and controlled by Sony, with Disney having a voice. Nobody currently able to make DVDs can press BD without exorbitant and prohibitive capital costs-costs which were put in place by Sony and Disney to gain a monopolistic position in the growing hi-def DVD industry. It's also the reason BD players cost around twice as much as HD. Or is that the "anti-consumer act" you meant?

Willie, you had better bone-up on your audio and video. Also, many own 1080p sets. Sales are now 71% for blu vs 29% for HD-DVD. I don't think production costs are an issue. Even if they were, economics of scale will kick in.
