Exclamation Sony BDP-S300 etc 3.80 firmware now officially listed.

Append: While the 3.80 firmware does make some movies load faster, some others actually load slower. It's hit and miss. See post #29 in this thread.

=================================================
Hope this ends the confusion and FUD about 3rd party firmware.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...00&region_id=1

The 3.70 firmware is officially listed now along with 3.30.

Improvements over firmware version 3.30:

Improves BD-Java compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs.
Additional improvements over original firmware:

Compatibility with the newly released BD-R/RE format (BDMV).
Improves BD-Java compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs.

Here's hoping to improved speed.

How long is this supposed to take? The docs said after about 20 minutes the tray would open but don't touch anythign because it's still going. Well, the tray has been opened and sitting there for 30 minutes so far and it's been almost an hour in total. I don't wanna touch anything.

If it spit the disc out and had DL OK on the screen, t's all set. It didn't eject on mine till it was complete.

Close the tray and you'll be fine. It's complete.

That's the thing I am unsure of. I was in the next room when it ejected and I never noticed if it said DL OK or not. Is it supposed to stay on the display or it goes away?

It'll say DL OK after you close the tray. The instructions are wrong.

Ok because this is what I am reading:

#
# A series of different messages will appear on the front panel display.
NOTE: After about 20 minutes, the disc tray may open.
WARNING!! Do not remove the disc from the player and do not close the tray. The update is still in progress.
# The firmware update is complete when "DL OK" appears on the player front panel display.
Front Panel Display
WARNING!! Do not operate or power off the player until this message is displayed. Doing so may result in your player being unresponsive and requiring repair.
# Remove the update disc from the player.
# Power on the BDP-S300 player.
NOTE: It takes about 90 seconds for the player to display pictures on the television when the player is powered on for the first time after installing the update.
# Check the firmware version (See "Check Current Firmware Version").
NOTE: If the version number is 3.70, the firmware update was successful.

Had this happen to me the first time. I reinserted the disc when it asked and continued. No harm done. Besides, you have to check if 3.70 comes up. It's a smart machine, go for it if you haven't.

Hi,

The update didn't work for me. I had the following message "NO DWLD 09" !!
My player is still working and is in 3.20
But someone already had this message ? What does it mean ?

Thank you.

Did you burn your own disc? I'm seeing mixed results here with some people claiming a CD works, and others say the CD does not work. Your burning software must use the "joilet" option. Otherwise you might run into the problem you are having.

Anyone else with more insight?

From the threads I have seen, the issue is that many are not making image discs. They may not be familiar with what it is. I used Nero 7 when I made my cd and it was perfect.

Hi,

This is for a UK BDP-S300.

I was getting the "NO DWLD 09" message, used half a dozen Sony brand CD-Rs from a cheap stack trying to get this to work with v3.70 to no avail.

I phoned Sony UK helpline today and they advised I use a TDK CD-R. I did, and it worked! Go figure, as they say.

Hope this helps.

Default Version 3.7 oddity ?

In my case the drawer stayed open and the "DL OK" message was very brief, I happened to see it. However, it left my 300 in 24p mode. Fortunately ,my Samsung created a message "HDMI format not supported". So, it did not return the 300 to "factory default". All is well, however.

I did mine with a Sony supplied disc. I think it took all of 10 minutes. I was expecting 30. I had to go back and run setup and then adjust it.

One rockin machine.

I'm not sure for this update, but for previous ones it said a DVD-R must be used, has any one had issues with DVD=R or DVD-RW???
