I'd really wait for the Panny DMP-BD50 set exhibited at CES...I think it is supposed to be released sometime in the spring. It is BD-Live prof.2.0 out of the box, and has the 7.1 analog outputs. It decodes every single advanced audio codec (even DTS-MA) internally so it will work with non-HDMI receivers, and it also supports the Deep-color and 24fps. It is more complete than any HD DVD player--it's just not quite available yet. Plus, its a Panasonic, and they make some pretty solid stuff. I have the BD10AK and love it.

# Step 12 - Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other HD DVD fanboys, and to practice these principles in all our video affairs

Just kidding. Welcome. The PS3 is amazing!

Very unnecessary man.

- its panasonic (or matsushita electric) btw. they hold more of the intellectual property behind the technology that drives 'blu-ray'.
- blu-ray is not specifically owned by sony.

Ok after much thought ( another amazon price drop on the A30), I decided to keep all my hd-dvds and a30. It is not really worth getting rid of my hd-dvds and rebuying them on blu. I just have some collectors items I suppose.

On the other hand I ordered a ps3 from sonystyle. Now for some nice movies to go BOGO.

I highly suggest you buy the 40 gb PS3. It has soooooooooooooooooo many features, its completely worth it. For your hd-dud collection, maybe might need a dual player so you can play both formats.... or just sell the collection, while you still can.

If you've got the room for two players, this makes the most sense financially. PS3 is a terrific player and I'm sure you'll be very pleased.

Just want to add like others have, welcome to blu and this site. Personally, I had a sony BD-S300 as my first blu player, but after hearing recommendations here and research, I sold it and got the 40GB-PS3 and could not be happier. Not that the S300 was a bad player, just the PS3 had more to offer ,especially the wi-fi part (thank goodness my son understands that part I would recommend Kingdom of Heaven , and Planet Earth goes without saying. Again, welcome and enjoy the blu and this wonderful site.

I already got Planet Earth on hd-dvd, so I don't think I will be rebuying that one.
Only thing I might buy for blu right now is maybe 3:10 yuma and dragon wars. I have to control my spending.

Hope you've seen the movie. I realize tastes vary, but I found DW to be, well, not my cup of tea.

The newly announced Panasonic BD50 promises to be a good player that will support the BD-Live specifications. No price just yet:

welcome to the dark side!

ps3 was a good choice and i hope it works out for you. i have the 60gig version and i love it.

reading through the first pages of this thread, i was wondering what you were going to do with your hd-dvd stuff. good choice in keeping it. i mean it still plays the movies you have and there are still a few hd movies not on bd yet. i'm sure a few of my fellow blu zealots would say dump it and re-purchase all blu but to me that's going around the block just to cross the street.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I purchased HD-DVD last year because I liked how they put titles out in Combo format so I could still use the disc on my regular DVD players. It looks like HD-DVD will be gone soon. I had been wondering what Blu-Ray player I should get, and from everything I've read, it looks like the PS3 is the way to go.

Once they patch it to be able to output DTS-MA, it will be, hands down the best one on the market I'd say.

Watch for deals and you should be able to get it for a little less than $399. I have no doubts that you will thoroughly enjoy Blu. Do a little research and you'll probably like a bunch of the other features the PS3 offers (such as being a media server that you can wirelessly stream music and video off of your computer).
That's exactly what I did last week. However, I have no interest in buying any PS3 games as of yet because all the good titles are already on 360.

With regards to the updates, is there currently an update available for the 40GB? I don't have my PS3 hooked up to the internet yet and am wondering if I should. Thanks guys. Love that hot deals forum! I've used several coupons already.
