according to what Ive read they are not allowed to charge £8 I'm looking into it my girlfriend is a legal secretary ...
re amazon
one solicitor said "Amazon have technically misled customs as they have stated the wrong price of the items on the box".

Ive received loads which were in excess of the £18 but everything came for some reason via Germany ....

I'm not letting this drop ... it must cost amazo as much to give me the £18 as it does for postage here and back ... which I have just pointed out to them ...

Taxed on what I buy @ 17.5% + extra % on Duty if importing... even get taxed on gifts...
I'm taxed on my savings.
Were taxed via interest rates levid by the Bank of England btw which is the Queen... just for using their tender.

We would still import but not having these friggin huge charges & massive prices we'd only need to import stuff that will only be available in certain countries & not here, like stuff from japan & the US, or certain editions we won't be gettin over here like the blade runner set

Oh well, guess i just hope my life pans out good & i can escape to some sunny country, dubai is a place i'd love to retire to, only 17 & already in despair, what a bummer

I could buy a harrier jumpjet from ebay and not get charged customs.

The last time I was charged was when laserdisc was around.

Yeah well, US is not much better. Taxes are not nearly as high in Europe but we still pay them.

Taxed on your car, your house, your food, your fun, your birth and your death. You are taxed no matter what.

Trust me - I had to pay a gas guzzler tax on a car. Yeah, GAS GUZZLER tax. Wonder who came up with that. Lol.

Amazon did dig themselves into a hole with the BOGOs by using the original price on the invoice. Some of us did a 'price match' for a later sale and was credited for something that is 'free' if net dollars was used. I guess Amazon will do themselves a service by using the net price on the invoice instead of hiding the discount as a single 'promotional discount' at the bottom of the bill.

BTW, there is always the difference between value for insurance purposes versus the net paid gap and I don't know what is the best solution for that.

Good luck with your battle!

I have been reading this forum for sometime and think it's fantastic. I haven't posted a comment yet, as either you guys have already answered questions I have or post just before I about to. So typical.

But this comment, I hope it was a joke, well beggars belief really. What a statement.

Anyway soon it will be cheap in America too (it already is for europeans since your governement destroyed the dollar) as your country plunges into recession.

But seriously how can you call Europe boring. We have nearly 230 languages here, 48 countries, which means 48 different cultures, 700 million people, etc etc. As soon as we find a bit of land we dont stick a car park on it. Oh admire a building which is just 20yrs old and think it is ancient.

Its a shame becuase your ignorance of counties has been an effective foreign policy so far....

And hey we dont have to worry about any format war over here. I cant even find HD-DVD in the shops here.

All I want Amazon to understand is they should have marked the label with the individual amount that I paid for each individual Item within ... as if they had then I would not have to pay duty ... thats it ... nothing more or less... this is there reply...

Thanks for writing to Amazon.com.

When you choose the option to "group items into as few shipments as possible," we make every effort to comply with your request. However, we have several fulfillment centers around the U.S., and not all of the items we offer are stocked at all of our fulfillment centers.

In order to fill your order as quickly and efficiently as possible, we decided to split your order (######) into 2 shipments so that we could take advantage of the items in stock at different locations.

Rest assured, we didn't charge you for any additional shipping costs beyond those which you authorized when placing the order.

Any customs or import duties are levied once the package reaches the destination country. Additional charges for customs clearance must be paid by the recipient; we have no control over these charges and can't predict what they might be.

You are welcome to refuse this package. Refusing the shipment allows you to return the unopened box without having to pay for return shipping.

If you are unable to refuse the shipment, you can the items back to us via an economical air mail method. Send the package to:

RETURNS CENTER - AMAZON.COM
172 Trade Street

Once you have returned the item, please write again to let us know what your return shipping costs were. We will refund your credit card for this expense.

Please visit the following link to provide the information we requested:

Once the package is returned to us, we will issue a full refund.

I have been a good customer because of your great customer service however in this instance I am very upset, please could you tell me how to obtain a refund if I dont accept the goods and the post office return to you as undelivered.

This has put me off ordering any further goods from you...

All my past orders have come via Germany and have not had to pay any charges despite how you have shown the info on the box . "
This really is not their fault. Regardless of the discount they offered, they are suppose to declare the true value of the goods that the export to comply with all laws. Customs often compares like goods when auditing things being imported so they would have to be consistent on the value declared for each of the same goods.

If somebody send you a plasma TV for free, it still has to have a declared value that will have to be paid when it is imported. It is the same for other items, if they give you a discount but not your neighbor, as far as import department is concerned, that value declared should be the same as they are the same goods.

Look at it this way, if you were in Singapore, that maybe would get you a BMW 320 (4 cylinder) with no options. I think your car would be around $300K.

On the other hand, personal taxes are very low. But taxes on alcohol, cars, and cigs is high.

Though BD are around US$38 each, I normally import from amazon as well.
