I watched Part 1 last night and plan on getting through Part 2 tomorrow. I started it today, but didn't' have a chance to finish it (life with a 1 year old )

ANYWAYS, I have to say I was a little underwhelmed with Part 1's 3D. It seemed to add a decent amount of depth, but that's about it. There were some real missed opportunities in terms of pop-outs that, well, didn't really pop out. That said however, the vast majority on the film is a little on the non-eventful side, and really wouldn't lend itself to gimmicky 3D. So if you expect a crazy 3D event from Part 1, you obviously haven't seen it at all.

I'm just through the Gringot's scene in Part 2 and I can safely attest to the well done conversion. It's also helped buy things actually happening in the flick. The dragon scenes in particular were very well done.

Worth the $23 I paid for it at Best Buy but this is certainly not Avatar, or even Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D
Agreed wholeheartedly.

I decided to keep it (Part 1 in 3D), then I watched it.

Seems fine to me. I knew HP movies would be tough for many 3D displays because you tend to have half the brightness and that makes dark scenes difficult.

I didn't need stuff thrown at my like a 70's 3D movie... Most of my 3D Blus aren't like that and that's fine.

I didn't see anything particularly "wrong" with the Video Quality.

From what I've read, Part 1's 3D is as I expected, not a huge amount of pop-out moments, but fantastic depth.

Part 1 is not an action movie, it is very much character-driven.

I await a professional review!

I don't own part 1 in 3D, but the 3D disc for part 2 has subtitles in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

I agree with every negative review...and I rarely if every say anything bad about 3D. This is just a mess in every sense.

Part 2 is just like it was in the theaters, which isn't awesome but definitely worth watching and owning. Part 1 however is just...abysmal.

Second your comments on part I. I've only watched the first 45 minutes, but the 3D is pretty awful. I'm straining to see much if any 3D effect, so I feel like I'm just watching a darker, murkier version of an already dark film. I'm tempted to watch the rest of the movie using the 2D disc.

This is coming from someone who loves 3D and has watched plenty of excellent 3D in his theater.... using an Optoma GT700 projector on a 120" high gain screen.

I watched about the first 30 minutes of Part 1 and really the 3D doesn't add much at all. I'll keep it for the collection but maybe this is the reason nobody got a copy to review?

Anyone notice a shot in Part 2 that just murders your eyes? It's the over the shoulder shot of Neville doing the speech to the Death Eaters and the students. It seems to make your eyes go cross-eyed and put a huge amount of strain on them. It's strange because I didn't notice it in the cinema and I guess they didn't pick up on it either on post.

Just read the reviews and indeed, the 3D effects of Part 2 were better and more effective than in Part 1. I just watched both movies back to back today and you can see the difference in depth perception and pop-out effects between Part 1 and Part 2. I give Part 1 3/5 and Part 2 4/5 rating in terms of the 3D experience. Also, the 2.40:1 aspect ratio doesn't allow me to have an immersive experience of the film in 3D in my 55" 3D TV (time to invest in a 3D projector soon but I have no room for it right now). I prefer a 1:78:1 aspect ratio of 3D films like they did with Avatar which had a 2.39:1 original aspect ratio but released in Avatar 3D Blu in 1.78:1 ratio.

I didn't notice this part when I watched it today. I'll have to watch this scene again.

I noticed it too. It looks like the image reverted back to 2d and your looking at a 2d image through a window. I"m not sure if I remember that in the theatrical version. Might be a problem with the disc transfer.

Oh well, the 3d image for the film overall for me was really good. Love the shot of the dragon popping out of the wall and snapping it's jaws towards the screen!

Well over at HD Digest these 2 movies have been just reviewed, and it seems they say there some of the worst 3D movies they have seen it seems, how can the reviews be so different here ? they gave part 2 just 1.5 stars even.

Large number of posters in here work for film companies, and as such, are quite biased, and more prone to give positive reviews and opinions.

The consensus is that Part 2 is actually pretty good quality, for a movie that doesn't really overwhelmingly depend on 3-D conversions in the first place.
(And from what little I've seen so far, I'd concur--A little View-Mastering and some fuzzy backgrounds, but still a jump when we see the opening shots of Dementors hovering around the castle.)

And not coincidentally because they had time to work on it for the theatrical run and Part 1 didn't--Although Part 1's conversion was already underway when the movie was being made, think Warner was using the Blu as a test case for whether other abandoned conversions could be "completed" for the disk release, and the rush job showed....Well, we know now.

How would you then explain this review of part 2: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/6143...r_y7p2_3d.html

Is the reviewer crazy, out of his mind or blind? I'm thinking none of those. According to him the 3D conversion manages to ruin the regular 2D quality too in shots where 3D was not even used.
