Question Output Resolution?

I read somewhere blu ray discs will only output at 1080p, is this true?

Im wondering because my HDTV is only 720p....so can I watch a blu ray disc in 720p?

BDs carry a 1080p signal, however all players can downscale, and most TVs too so it shouldn't be a problem.

But some people say that Blu ray doesn't support 720p, only 1080i/p and 480, are they correct?

My TV does do 1080i, I guess I can settle with that.
