i don't think i hate HD DVD because of it's crappiness... i think i hate HD DVD because it's incredibly stupid press releases that say the same old bullshit:
"the best value and quality for the consumer" "the customer has chosen, it is a wonder why has the retail and entertainment sector ignored this" "we have more studio support (overseas) than the BDA" "HD DVD is a completed spec" "only on HD DVD do we offer choices for the customer" (uh, what, between the A3, A30, A35, or xbox add on??) "HD DVD will enlarge your penis by 2 inches" it's embarassing... no wonder they're so quiet these days... too embarassed to show their faces. |

If Toshiba are in a deal with M$ to prolong the war as long as possible for the sake of the download market, that's an even nastier thing to do to their customers. |

Attention Toshiba HD DVD Press Group...
You still need to respond to Hi-Fi Klubben and Tripictures. I've made this template for you.. We have long held the belief that HD DVD is the best format for consumers based on quality and value, and with more than 1 million HD DVD players on the market, it's unfortunate to see *Insert latest company to dump HD DVD here* make the decision to only stock Blu-ray titles going forward. While the Best Buy announcement says they will recommend Blu-ray, at least they will continue to carry HD DVD and offer consumers a choice at retail. Note,.. That last sentence may need to be updated soon,.. I'll keep you posted. -Brian |

Here's a new quote that they sent to Video Business. This one's a bit more interesting...
"It’s unfortunate to see a valued partner like Best Buy make the decision to push consumers toward Blu-ray," Jodi Sally, marketing VP for HD DVD camp leader Toshiba, said in an email. "We’re also aware of the NetFlix decision to only stock Blu-ray movies for rental going forward. Given these developments, Toshiba will continue to study the market impact and the value proposition for consumers, particularly in light of our recent price reductions on all HD DVD players." http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6531274.html |

From EngadgetHD:
HD DVD camp issues sad little response to Netflix, Best Buy snubs Out of the many jobs in today's multi-billion dollar consumer electronics industry, the one we'd probably want least right now is writer of press releases for the HD DVD Promotional Group. After each major defection, these poor folks have to whip up a positive-sounding response to what everyone knows is very bad news -- but after yesterday's one-two punches by Netflix and Best Buy, even these paid cheerleaders are having trouble finding the right spin. Here's what they had to say, as reported by CNET: "We have long held the belief that HD DVD is the best format for consumers based on quality and value, and with more than 1 million HD DVD players on the market, it's unfortunate to see Netflix make the decision to only stock Blu-ray titles going forward. While the Best Buy announcement says they will recommend Blu-ray, at least they will continue to carry HD DVD and offer consumers a choice at retail." Doesn't sound like there's too much fight left there, does it? If the best you can do to support your dying format is to rehash the same canned argument and celebrate your remaining shelf space, well, there would seem to be a bigger problem than you're willing to admit. At this point, we're just curious to see how it will all end: after investing so much time, energy, money, and vitriol on this bitter format war, how does Toshiba move forward in a world almost completely dominated by its rival in blue? http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/02/12...best-buy-snub/ |
