Default Just ordered the Sony KDL-40XBR4...

Was going to go for the KDL-40V3000 but I saw them side by side at a store and I was just blown away by the 40XBR4. Yeah, spouse will probably strangle me...but not for long.

My PS3 comes tomorrow, the 40XBR4 in about 7 days. Going with the 40XBR4 though takes away from the sound-system fund...but that's not a big deal. I'd rather get a great picture right off the bat and then get a good sound system a little down the road. Trying not to compromise anything.

Now, I've seen some posts talking about optimum viewing distance for different resolutions...but nothing for 1080p. Is there one?

Your TV is 1080p, not 1040p, so use that guide.

congrats on the new tv, just remember you need to calibrate the picture settings when you get it. As for viewing distance for a 5 to 10 feet is what i hear is good for a 40" tv.

Heres a link that shows a chart.

Also go to AVS for XBR4 calibration tips and what not.

Enjoy your PS3 and Tv i know i do, i also use my XBR4 as a computer monitor which works just great.

Ah, thanks for the link, exactly what I was looking for!

Looks to me that 5' is the optimum for my 40". Cool, just a tad closer than where I was going to set up the seat. But we'll see when it actually gets here as I'm sure these are not hard-and-fast rules but more guidelines....

Congrats. A friend of mine received a 40xbr4 on Friday and had it mounted on her wall. It is an impressive tv from the looks dept alone.

5' may be optimum, but that is just too close to sit to a tv that large, imo... I got a Samsung 4069 last week and there is no way I could stand sitting that close. I usually sit around 10 feet back and with the PS3, the image is spectacular.

Congrats on the purchase. I've had mine since October, and the quality still impresses me. Definitely adjust the settings. The Vivid setting will burn your eyeballs.

I just got my 40XBR4 today and I don't think I'll be leaving home for a couple of days, lol. My Dad came over to check it out and I don't think he wanted to leave when I put The Rock in to show him. He described it to my brother by saying "Holy $#!t". Needless to say, I am quite pleased with my purchase.

Today my Dad brought my Mom over to see it and I put in Curse of the Black Pearl. All of us were blown away by the detail in the stonework of the fort when Elizabeth falls over the side into the water. When they left, I immediately started it over to watch the whole thing and followed it up with Casino Royale. Man, I never realized what a POS my old HDTV really was.
