Onkyo HTIB setup/upgrade question... - Blu-ray Forum

Hey folks- I have an Onkyo Home Theatre in a Box containing an Onkyo HT-R340 receiver hooked to generic onkyo speakers. The sub-woofer that came with it is very weak, but cheap, but the other speakers sound pretty darn good, especially in DTS... My question is: Can I hook up a "powered subwoofer (possibly of another brand) up to my reciever where-as now I have an un-powered subwoofer hooked up AND recieving power from my reciever???? Thanks a lot...

possibly a yamaha or a klipch, nothin' too fancy yet, i still live in an apartment

Yes - just use your Subwoofer Pre Out.

what type of cord do i use for this: speaker, coax, etc....

you can use normal RCA type for it, but I'd check out Monoprice for a shielded "Sub cable" But no worries.... If I were you, I'd just use a cheap RCA.

What is your HTIB Model number?

i'm thinking i'll use the speaker outs rca on the left and lower of the back of the reciever- the purple one- also, will i need to adjust settings on my reciever if this is possible?
