Occassionaly, my SD collection consisted of many blind buys. Some of which proved to be some of the most AMAZING movies (The Proposition, Dead Man's Shoes, Dog Soldiers, and Running Scared just to name a few).

Right now I am sitting pretty at 53 BDs, and I have treated my collection quite differently thus far. All of my BDs are upgrades. My wife and I see most of the movies that are released while they are still in theaters (I am so happy I married a movie buff...and she doesn't even like chick flicks ), so I know what I am getting into.

Anymore, unless I read an intriguing or fascinating review, I don't do blind buys.

About a third - more or less the same as I used to have with DVD (no Netflix around here!).

Buying a movie you've never seen before is a bad idea, and I'm surprised so many people do it.

about a third of my collection i didn't previously rent or see in theatres but admit i usually download screeners first to see if it's worth buying, so that makes only 6 of 66 truly blind buys.

that statement is kind of ignorant. anything you watch for the first time is essentially a blind buy.
you can go to the theatres (a blind buy), gamble your money on something that might suck, and watch it only once in a room full of annoying people on a screen that isn't as clear as your 1080p at home. no refund. 2 tickets and snacks: $30+.
you can rent (a blind buy), gamble your money on something that might suck, and watch it once or twice. no refund. new release: $9.
or you can blind buy a disc, gamble your money on something that might suck (of course by the time it's on shelves for purchase helpful reviews are plentiful), watch is as much as you want for years and years to come. if it turns out you don't like it then sell it and recoup some of the cost. 1 blu-ray you like: $25. 1 blu-ray that sucks: $5-10 net (cheaper or on par with renting).

Corpse Bride is my only blind buy on blu. I bought quite a few blind buys on dvd. I don't see myself getting more blu blind buys until the prices start to come down, or we get some BOGO's.

Ratatouilli (for a kid though, not me) and "No country For Old Men" are my only current Blind Buys..... I really like to research, and make sure I'm going to like it if I blind-buy, otherwise I have to sell it I love No country, and look forward to blind-buying "There Will Be Blood"

It is probably about 60% Blind buys for me too. I'm with the other people and with the price being what it is to go to the theater why not own the movie yourself and watch it in your home. Most of the people on here have their Blu-ray player hooked up to a super nice tv and surround sound system. To me I've always been a movie fan and to watch the picture in top notch quality as it is in blu is a treat. There is a bunch of older movies I never did watch on standard dvd and will blind buy just because I know it will be the best possible way of watching them.

My thoughts exactly. If I can't rent it, then I buy it and if I don't want to keep it, I resell it.

I agree with this. I would much prefer buying a BD than going to the theater.

As for blind buying, I only see movies in the theater that I will most likely enjoy, so 95% of movies I see in the theater I will like and buy the BD anyway.

I have about 6 or 7, but I may be cutting that out since I really didnt like the last two of my blind buys! Sunshine and 30 Days of Night were both blind buys and total let downs for me. I'm still going to blind buy Rambo though as I'm sure I will like that one
