all tvs should have the capabilities.
It would keep todays technology 1080ip but have it look more updated

According to to this link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-De...edia_Interface
HDMI 1.3/1.3a/1.3b has a maximum resolution of 2560x1600p60 so cannot do 2160p (4k2k ) I don't really know why - it's just data - in theory it should be capable of any resolution as long as it has enough bandwidth - though it's just not part of the HDMI 1.3 spec.

For 2160p I think they'd currently need a different connection (DVI or something?)

HDMI is an ever-evolving technology, so if and when there will be a need for a higher bandwidth cable, then all they have to do is release a newer revision and it will support resolutions beyond 1600p.

Take everything you read on Wikipedia with a grain of salt! They don't allow use of wikipedia as a valid source for papers in many colleges (at least with advanced degrees - its been a while since my bacheolors).

if you're not using it for front projection, anything over 1080p is pretty much a waste I'd say.......

2160p tvs are made, but they are not retailed yet. remember with new technology comes problems. when 2160p hdtvs do come out you will be better off buying a really good 1080p tv.

For starters, it would be nearly impossible to tell the difference between 1080p and 2160p at 50"-70"

Second, upconverted BD on a 2160p tv would look worse than regular BD does on a 1080p tv.
Agree with the last two sentences but not the first one because this thread has started an interesting discussion.

Yes, I cannot see the advantages of upscaling blu-ray in a home environment. Most likely it would deliver an inferior picture due to scaling art-effects. IMO, blu-ray delivers a stunning picture even on a very large screen that could fit in a typical home. The improvements of 2160p in a home environment would be marginal and therefore it is debatable whether it would be economical to develop such a system for the mass market. However, commercial theaters with very very large screens would definitely benefit from higher resolution. IMO, definitely there would be a significant difference between 2K and 4K also 6K in the future cannot be ruled out in relation to commercial theaters.
