Default Games to use Compressed Lossless eventually?

I know some games feature PCM already, but with games filling up 50gb now(MGS4), when, if ever, will we start to see games take advantage of Dolby TrueHD or DTSHD-MA? Is the technology possible? I think I read MGS4 has a DD track(lossy) how much better would it sound with TrueHD...? Anyone know if this is coming? That would be a big advantage on multi-platform games to me. GTAIV would rock with a DTS-HDMA track, I remember GTA3 and Vice City had a standard DTS track, it was pretty good.

Are you sure? Cuz i own resistance and i dont ever recall seeing an option for Uncompressed PCM... I know that alot of my games play dolby digital, but the signal is sent via PCM, which is not uncompressed material...

Is your PS3 setup for PCM normally for Movies. HDMI audio, Linear, etc.

Doesn't Lair use uncompressed audio? I know it's 7.1 but is it lossless? I think GT5 Prolouge uses a lossless track, but I'm not too sure on that one either.

What exactly do you mean? I run the new audio formats for movies, yes. They are sent via PCM.

Interesting. I know when i fired up Resistance Last week to test my new Dual Shock 3 it came up in PCM, im pretty sure the PS3 does the audio switching in game at least for resistance as i havent played all the games on the list.

Well, i know that with my receiver, if i send the signal bitstreaming, then the receiver will do the decoding to show DD and if i do LPCM, it will send the DD signal as multichannel PCM. If a game had uncompressed audio, im sure it would be listed on the back of the game, as it does for 720p, 1080i..... but ive never seen a listing for Lossless audio formats, only dolby digital. Ill have to check things out when i get home...

did this earlier for another person. i unchecked the 5.1 and 7.1 pcm settings and it automatically bitstreamed dd . with everything checked its pcm. internal decodinig my is my guess. if you tell it that you cannot use 5.1 or 7.1 pcm it defaults to bitstreaming. this is for hdmi of course. otherwise all games will show multi channel for me.

You'll never see games using TrueHD or DTS-HD MA. There's no reason to conserve disc space athe cost of computational power.

Video games push the computational power of consoles, not just in pure processing speed requirement, but also in memory requirement. Decoding both TrueHD and DTS-MA requires a lot of extra power a typical next generation title can't afford to spare without sacrificing other elements.

Besides, it's not like there's any equipment out there that doesn't understand LPCM. Any HDMI transport that can bitstream TrueHD or DTS-MA (HDMI 1.3) can also transport PCM 7.1, so there's no advantage to be gained from the compression.

At this point, I think True Sound would just make the games shorter.

I hope they just keep the gameplay fun and addictive. True...Lossless audio would add to that, but I don't think it's necessary to make a game great.

Exactly what I was trying to say. Mine shows all as Multichannel PCM, like what you are saying, but i dont think people understand that this does not mean its Uncompressed.

You know, all the PS3 games that I have bought in Japan list both Linear PCM 5.1/Dolby Digital 5.1 on the back of the box. I currently have DMC4, COD4, Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan, and Uncharted (with Uncharted actually showing Linear PCM 5.1/7.1; Dolby Digital 5.1; and DTS Digital Surround 5.1) Do these games not show those audio options on versions outside of Japan?

Probably because most american dont even know what DD or DTS is much less Linear PCM 5.1/7.1 especially when it comes to video games.

for dvd being a dominat format on the market for years and lists the audio on the back, us americans must be really dumb to not know what dts or dd is
