I looked through the great detailed crack sticky thread on this topic, but did not see this specific question come up and since the last post was nearly a month ago, I needed a more timely resolution. Thanks and props to those who have contributed input in several of my previous threads and topics.
A relative who is completely upgrading his system is GIVING ![]() I have the SAMSUNG BD-P1400. My plan is to leave the HDMI cable connected to my TV as it is now and make the audio connection between the BR player and the Onkyo 505. As you know, the BD-P1400 does contain a 5.1 CH Analog Audio Out grid that you can connect to directly your receiver. I noticed that it also has an additional little grid for another pair of L & R analog out connections. Would I be able to utilize this extra pair of audio outs and connect it to my receiver directly thus making a true 7.1 connection??? Or is this something that I am only able to directly connect the analog outs/ins for just a 5.1 experience and then its a combination of me tweaking with a bunch of settings and the Onkyo 505 receiver somehow intuitively amplifying the 5.1 lossless feed into a 7.1 output?? Thanks in advance. Last edited by Collectors Set; 06-01-2008 at 06:58 PM. |

According to the 505, it says that it does have multi channel 7.1 inputs. But if you look at this closeup of the back, I see 6 color coded analog inputs under the DVD section. But like the Blu Ray player, there is also another set up of analog ins in a separate grid under another DVD labeled section.
Another thing I noticed is that the analog outs on the Blu Ray player are red and white, while the multi analog ins on the 505 are all different colors: http://www.hometheatershack.com/Onky...R505-Receiver/ |

I was looking through the BD manual, all I saw was option for 5.1 analog.
Also, the 1400 can only bitstream DTS-HD MA, so analog would not work for that format, but it looks to have internal Dolby TrueHD decoding, so at least you'll hear that and Uncompressed PCM. ![]() |

Haha - Ill put it here to. I posted it in your sticky thread:
This is another interesting scenario and if anyone else is running this, please let us know. It is well documented in the sticky thread, that other than direct HDMI connectivity, the most lossless connection out there is going direct between Blu Ray player and Receiver via analog outs/ins. So if anyone out there is running this kind of 5.1 analog Blu Ray out to their 5.1 analog Receiver analog in, BUT the receiver is a 7.1 receiver, what really "happens" with those two extra surround speakers in the audio experience??? |

![]() I think for my personal situation, the 2 best options for me in terms of cost and what will physically fit in my slim glass TV cabinet is either going with the freebie Onkyo 505 and the pure unadulterated analog 5.1 hookup and not worrying about the extra two surrounds or just simply getting the brand new Sony 820 with pure HDMI connectivity. I was debating about starting a thread on the 820. I made a quick comment on it in another thread buried somewhere in the 3rd page so it did not get any traction. But I was in a CC store just as they were putting out the new store demo & for the money the 820 looks really impressive in terms of function and specifically audio transfer. Thanks again for your contributions to this site ![]() |
