Default Help Owner Of An Onkyo 505 Needs An Advise

Hi there, first of all excuseme for my poor english.

The question is this:

I own a Onkyo 505 receiver.

I own a Sony BDP-S300.

Thru analogs outputs I can enjoy PCM and Dolby TrueHD, (although not DTS MA) and only in 5.1

I am planning to buy a Playstation 3 but I've heard that PS3 when connected with an old-fashioned AV receiver as mine the audio comes only as "normal" DD or DTS, no hi-def sound, even if the audio is sent by HDMI

PS3 doen's have multichannel outputs so I can't use that. But lately I've been reading that PS3 indeed decodes Dolby TruHD and DTS MA and sends the audio as LPCM thru HDMI.

Is that true? If so, my old onkyo could do the work or I still would need to upgrade my AV receiver in order to get real Hi-def sound.

Thank you in advance for your kind replies.

No you will need a new reciever. I have the same reciever as you and have been dying to get HD audio so I bought an 805 off Ebay for $375. (Still shocked with deal! )

que poca madre! hehehe I'll have to buy both the A/V receiver and the player...

I'll buy next week an Onkyo 875, I've read and heard great stuff about that receiver.
But about the BD player. I guess now I'll wait until this fall to see how good is the new Sony 550 in comparison with PS3. I don't like too much game consoles.

Anyway thank you so much for the info!
