I'm soooooooo greatful for this thread, because I thought I was alone. I hate those freakin things and I have given up.

In this new age of digital hijacking, I really don't think some dude stuffing his ski jacket in the middle of the summer is THAT big of an issue anymore.

I've been out of retail for a while now, so I no longer know the inside scene, but there HAS to be a better way.
Goo gone
Oops andything that removes sticky stuff, dont use nail polish remover or anything strong as it will damage the plastic

Newer LG releases have one sticker (top) now and it is easier to peel now.

old LG movies on blu are pain in the AZZ. If you peel it very slowly and sticky residue wont be there. If you rush, u asked for it.

I have not see three stickers on my purchases for a while since 2008 began.

The security stickers on the outside are much more of a concern than the square on the inside. The outside stickers LionsGate uses RIPS THE COVER ART!!! I HATE that. First Blood is my newest LionsGate BD with ripped cover art at the bottom.

Thank you! i've read every one of these posts, just hoping someone would mention WD40! the stuff works great! just spray it on, leave it there for a minute, and wipe it off! residue comes right off. i usually use glass cleaner on the case afterwards to get rid of the residue left by the WD40.

I don't know about the rest of you guys but when I dump my hard earned cash on BD's I want the case to look good also! Anyone have any good suggestions to remedy this problem besides not buying Lionsgate BD's? for example I just bought The Punisher today and of course that friggin tape screwed up the case!
For me the key to removal is lots and lots of patience.
I have removed many security strips since I have around 500 DVD & Blu-ray movies.

I have used mineral spirits (paint thinner) and it works pretty good but I have dulled the shine on several clear covers by rubbing the thinner on with paper towel to remove the residue.
Also, I suggest removing the cover art to prevent wetting it with the thinner.

I now just reapply the security strip and pull it off with the techniques below to remove all the tape residue. Some take several minutes to completely remove the residue however I get all the sticky residue off of every case.

First I remove the security strip in one piece:
The object here is to leave as little residue as possible when the security tape is first removed.
1) Start at the backside corner nearest the case hinge.
2) Once the corner of the security tape is lifted enough to grasp I pull the security tape down as quickly as possible. It will take several tugs to pull the tape down on the backside. (note: very little residue remains when the tape is pulled quickly)
3) Once the tape is removed from the rear of the case you will start by slowly pulling the tape from the front cover. Once the tape is pulled from the edge of the case cover you can quickly pull the tape off (across the cover) and there should be very little tape residue on this side. (pulling the security tape from the hinge to the opening side along the front (parallel to the edge) ensures you won’t deform or rip the vinyl cover when you pull the tape off quickly.

Now to remove the tape residue:
Rarely will just sticking the tap on the residue and just pulling it back of work very well.
So, I use the procedure below:
1) Place the center of the security tape over the area with residue and rub the tape down with your fingernail.
2) Grasp the edge of the tape and fold it back over and pull the tape off quickly.
(the trick is having the tape fold back as it is pulled off so the motion while removing the tape is along the case and not pulling the tape away from the case.

I hope this helps

I have no problem removing Lionsgate's quite frankly ridiculous security seals. My problem is when I buy discs off ebay that are Lionsgate and some retard has wrecked the cover or case removing the f*cking things!

Ruin the consistency of a dvd/bd?? Wtf?? Are you crazy? Who the hell cares what is on inside of a blu ray case? And how in the world does this relate to dvd's being expensive? The little black stickers are for security reasons, they are there to set off the alarms in stores. This thread is ridiculous.

I have not had any problems removing the security tape from Lionsgate titles in quite a while now. They used to be terrible though. The original poster was talking about problems with The Punisher which is one of Lionsgate's first BD's to be pressed. Very likely it was a copy that's been sitting around the warehouse for over a year. Persistence always paid off for me in getting the gunk off of the case with these. Just keep applying the strip back over it and ripping it off again. You have to actually run your finger nail over the tape pretty hard to really stick it down on the glue before pulling it back off. Eventually it comes back clean.

Default Packaging rant

I'm sick of receiving a movie, brand new which has atleast 3 sticky pieces of plastic to rip off the top, bottom and side plus 2 securty tags, plus you have the shrinkwrap which is covering the entire thing to start with anyway.

Not only does it take forever to open the damn case but it also ruins the case too!

I have just payed for a new Blu-Ray case because this one is now ruined after leaving so much sticky residue on the case edges, trying to remove it just made things worse so I have bought a case from ebay!

The only slightly good thing that has come from this is I have bought a Europe case as to the US case which was smaller, which is all besides the point.

I wasn't too sure of where to post this so it's going in the Blu-ray Movies and Releases section for now.

Sometimes I feel like I'm beatin' a dead horse
And I don't know why you'd be bringin' me down
I'd like to think that our love's worth a tad more
It may sound funny but you'd think by now I'd be smilin'
I guess some things never change

I actually never have had an issue with taking off any packing on my Blu-Rays. They all seem to come right off.

Though my only complaint has to be the 5 pieces of packaging to remove.
Shrink Wrap - 1
Stickys - 3
Security Tag - 1

Though there have been some DVDs that I actually had to dig my fingernails into the packaging to peel them off. Now that really upset me.

So far I've been impressed with how easy it is to peel off the stickys for Blu-Rays.

Label residue can easily be removed with goo gone. Most of the time I have no trouble but once in a while they don't come off very well. As long as people steal stuff there will be a need to take such drastic measures.

I wouldn't mind the security tags or the shrink wrap so much if the stickys hadn't been included, but they've ruined what was a nice looking Blu-Ray.

Agreed, leaving some kind of dent or mark on the box isn't very nice.

I don't think that stuff is available here, I actually googled an answer before I tried lighter fluid, which worked to an extent, but not good enough.

Just don't try to remove that security thing on the back of the WB coffee book blu-rays. Tried it yesterday on Natural Born Killers, and it took off some of the cardboard case that the blu is packaged in.

I purchased Patton at Blockbuster on the Sunday before the release date and the tabs which hold the discs in place were cracked. BB found me a used case, but I would like to find a new case, if I can. Besides online, which retailers would carry Blu-Ray cases (I need a (2) disc case for Patton).

Thanks!

I feel your pain.

I might also add this perticular Blu-Ray seemed to have a couple of smears on it, even though it was factory sealed, I just don't understand, they did look like finger smears too.

I don't really want to bother trying to clean them off, it would probably only make things worse.

Well, I suggest just using ebay, it's cheap enough.

Search for Blu-Ray Case under Lowest Price First, Buy it Now.

A small investment of a couple of dollars on a box of razor blades will solve all your problems. All you have to do is cut along the top and side seams of the case, and shrink wrap comes right off, the security labels come off easier. As for the security tags, just leave them on. I mean, you're only going to see them for the 1 second it takes to take the BD out of the case or put it back in.

I always use Goo-Gone and it has worked for me every time. It has never caused any damage or discoloration to my cases.
