Default PoTC too long? SM3 too long?

While I have not viewed the PoTC I have already heard complaints about the movie being too long. I heard this same argument about Spider Man 3 (SM3). My response to this has always been, the longer the movie the more value I get for my money. If the movie is tolerable which I would rate both PoTC and SM3 way above this adjective then I am glad they are more than two hours and in the case of PoTC approaching 3 hours of viewing pleasure. If movie prices continue to rise why not get more movie for the price. I guess I should start seeing the movies at the matinée price!

By the way, I plan to see PoTC this weekend. I am very excited. My wife and I are watching the first two in blu-ray (bought them on Tuesday) before we go.

I would appreciate thoughts on this subject regarding movie length. Thanks.

The longer the better. More bang for your money. If its too long or parts are too slow then hit the fast forward button or take a bathroom break.

Lots of people think if its too long it adds stuff that is irrelevent to the movie or slows the pace down. So it really is a personal preference.

Long in theaters? Probably.

At home? No such thing.

I was going to say the same thing. I find myself not liking really long movies at the theater. I get a little ancy, but when I'm at home, I don't mind long movies at all. Just saw SM3 last night and it was pretty long. I started to get restless. Should be different once it comes out on BD.

Unless your theatre is on the cutting edge of technology - DO NOT watch POTC 1 & 2 before you see the third. As for PQ, you will be disappointed. The movie is excellent - but it DOES NOT compare to BD.

I did. I must be missing something because I still don't understand. Why watch them out of order?

I have made this point before and I totally agree that the PQ is not as good in the theater as it will be in my home, but I have forgotten a few plot points of the first two PoTC and I cannot let $50 in BD sit on the shelf too long before opening them and watching.

Yeah, might be a bit unclear.

POTC 3 at the theatre was blurry to me. The PQ was not even close to that of Blu Ray.

POTC 1 and 2 on BD - From what I have just seen - is STUNNING.

In short, if your a PQ wh0r3 - you might not want to watch 2 BD before going to see a SD movie

I love long movies. turn down the lights, turn up the surround sound, shut up and enjoy. in the case of a movie theater the only thing I hate about a long movie is annoying people and uncomfortable chairs. although I have been known to waste and entire bag of m&m's by hitting annoying people in the head with them repeatedly. TURN OFF THE DAMN PHONE! I love getting lost in the story of a long engaging movie. what wears thin for me with potc 2 was how long some scenes lasted (30 minutes in that water wheel scene come on). my wife and I plan on watching pirates 1 & 2 tomorrow then go see pirates 3 sunday morning. very few people $5 tickets and its a nice 10 minute walk to the theater from our place.

I loved SM3. my wife was crying in places, not me mind you. just my wife. honest.

I've seen alot of movies that are blurry. They are like that because the projectionist is focusing it to their eye. If they can't see properly, it will be blurry to a person with 20/20 vision. I've complained and had a different person adjust the focus and made it clear. If it's focused properly the picture in the theater will look excellent and sharp.

People are reading too much into my post. Let me put it in lamens terms..

Its like this.. lets say you have a slooow computer at home. At work you have a faaaassstt computer. You come home to your slooow computer and its unbearable. So you get a new FASTER computer and the cycle repeats itself but now your home is faster and your work is slower.

In short, once your accustomed to something better - its hard to deal with the older, out dated technology. Your standards are higher and anything below that thresh hold, just does not cut it.

Make sense now?

That's only if they aren't using a digital projector at the theatres. I saw 'Spider-Man 3' in digital projection and boy, was it beautiful despite the fact that I found the movie to be a disappointment.
